After an enjoyable weekend at Tauranga we wanted to end our trip with a nice breakfast before we went home. so we decided to look for a local café. Now when choosing a place to eat, we follow our rule of thumb, firstly check around and read the reviews given by previous diners, secondly we checked how many people were seated when we arrive, 'The Chapel' was quite full, so we thought that our system hadn't let us down so far, so we went in. Now just in short, we have visited many cafes and restaurants around NZ and around the world in country's like Singapore, L.A and San Fran, Thailand, Australia the pacific islands on so on and we have also had the honor of visiting the Culinary of Institute of America Napa and I have learnt a lot about food and service what customers should expect. Are our expectations are to high for 'The Chapel' to reach? read on and you decide. I ordered a simple plate of food, scrambled eggs on toast with a side order of bacon with English breakfast tea with cream! Beside the tea what I got was a mutated version of what I had ordered, the bacon looked liked it was cooked in a dirty cast iron pan or plate that had not been cleaned since Noah was living on the earth, the bacon was covered in dirty little pieces black specs and you could tell the bacon was cooked to fast because the edges of the bacon was over cooked and the fat was still white which made those black specs stand out even more, the scrambled eggs were so over cooked that you really couldn't identify it as egg anymore and don't forget two pieces of dry toast, no butter, nothing just toast. There were mistakes made by everybody including myself 1) I should never of let the waitress go until I had inspected my food, but she did a dump and run smiling as she left, 2) how the person who cooked this monstrosity had the Gaul to even let this dish leave the kitchen is beyond me, 3) the wait staff is always the last line of defense before the dish reaches the customer, the presentation of this dish was so ugly that she must of had here eyes closed when she delivered this dish because if she had the fortitude to say that this plate shouldn't go out, none of this would be happening now. I feel sorry for the people who gave positive feedback in the past as I truly believe they we all genuine as we all know "The Chapel", your food is as only as good as your last dish, but for those you who deciding on visiting "The Chapel" hold onto the waitress until you are satisfied the you are happy with the presentation of your meal and if you are not send it back! Don't except sub par food, remember, you have given them your hard earned cash, expect more from our cafes. Did we stay, only to finish the nice English breakfast tea with cream, did we get our money back, we didn't ask for it, but we did complain to another wait person who came to clear our table she quickly disappeared with my plate and did not...
Read moreThe ambiance and setting was nice which was why we wanted to come in for a brunch . Bit disappointed no vaccine pass asked when there was inhouse dining. Brought my friend from wellington to try and show her a nice safe cafe. She wanted avacado on toast without the eggs benedist+beetroot but was told to pay full price. I asked for a refund and changed to simple avacado on toast as sides instead which they kindly were happy to do so, but it came out as a toastie and we weren't sure why. Pulled a fork out of the cutlery stand in the centre of our table and it was dirty with dried food on it, we felt put off our food. Husband ordered eggs bene which were well overcooked so had to ask them to re-do it which they kindly did and gave a free coffee . Staff were still very nice and friendly but the overall experience was just dissappointing with one thing...
Read moreHORRIBLE 😞😞News owners, all pics of lovely food not in place anymore.. I ordered a latta coffee and croissant with ham and cheese.. Standard seen anywhere.? iced coffee turned up and the croissant was awful. they used processesed luncheon roll. Taste of one bite awful for hours after. Could not eat. Coffee never turned up. Asked for a coffee refund before leaving and showed the crap ham ( non ham) as feedback, no request for refund. . What fired back at me was dishonest. Claimed I orded ice coffee, reason for no attempt to give me a replacement. Claimed they buy the best quality ham.. Rubbish its cheap processed lunching meat roll. Told to go elsewhere ( assume that includes our 20 to40 group members that feqent every Saturday and limited numbers Sundays) . Pick of what came out of the...
