Sy Bakehouse Cafe — Restaurant in Bay of Plenty

Sys' eggs benedict is my friend and I's go to breakfast as it's always yummy and very worth the price! Her and I get it at least once or twice a week. Today we went and were bombarded with flies for 30 mins while waiting (usually takes only 5-10 mins) for one plate to be brought to us with no sides (which are included) so we questioned and waited for our other plate to come. 15 minutes later I had to approach one of the ladies and told her the food has gone cold and hard whilst waiting for the other plate (which are both usually brought to us at the same time) to which she took the plate back into the kitchen. 5 mins later we hear a man asking for a refund as he had been waiting for almost an hour for his eggs benedict and was in a rush somewhere. A few mins later, both of our eggs benedict are brought to us (finally!) but the plate that was taken back into the kitchen was not reheated nor cooked again (it would have just been sitting there whilst the other plate was cooking). My friend refused to eat hers as she is pregnant and didn't want to risk anything if it was to be eaten cold or reheated and weren't going to wait any longer for another meal. My friend got a refund. I took a few bites of mine which was great (as usual) at first, until I cut into a mushroom and water filled the plate. I cut into one of the eggs and the yolk was dark orange with red spots in it and tasted rotten and like blood. I informed the lady about everything whom didn't seem impressed (even though my friend and I were waiting for almost an hour to get our food which turned out to be unpleasant by all means). I complimented how amazing the eggs benedict usually are and told her that I am unfortuantely unhappy and requested a refund to which she did eventually give me after a while of poor discussion. WOW what a delightful bakery. We stopped for a quick cuppa and couldn't believe the range of sweet baking savouries sandwiches and meals on offer Prices were amazing. The apple cream turnover was the best ever. The apple apricot etcetc squares at $2.50 such great value. Delicious mini pies hot and succulent on a cold day. We returned to this place on way home and purchased delicious rocky road in both dark and white chocolate they are know in my freezer for a special occasion. The lovely bright cheery ladies behind the counters greeted us so nicely and call out goodbye.. Such a nice thing to do. They were very energetic and efficient. Name sounds fancy but this place is pretty down to earth. It's a takeaway/lunch bar at its heart. They have pies, an array of drinks, a decent selection of cakes, slices, doughnuts and other sweet treats. There are filled rolls and sandwiches for purchase and a vast array of fried and deep fried food made to order: fish/chicken/steak & chips, burgers, etc in breakfast and lunch options.
