Taj Spice Indian Restaurant — Restaurant in Canterbury

We were drastically disappointed when we ordered lunch from her on Wednesday.

Our order consisted of,

-Mango Chicken curry with naan. -buttermilk chicken -chips -chicken chow mein -2x cans of soft drink

The mango chicken which was indistinguishable from a very poor butter chicken, at first I thought we had been given the incorrect order as everything about it was giving butter chicken, we later discovered that written on the container was ‘BC’ and then they had scribbled out the ‘B’ and written and ‘M’ under it which was a giveaway it wasn’t right as the reviews on over eats for the mango chicken was ‘popular’ no idea why.

The chicken chow mein had the exact same chicken in it as the so called ‘buttermilk fried chicken’ that was a give away that it was from a packet, the chow mein which was ordered mild for a child but it came very very spicy no one in our house could stomach more than a couple mouths full we just closed the lid and wrote it off as inedible and I’m a lover of spice.

The buttermilk chicken which was just deep fried chicken tenders with a coat and cook packet crumb on it. Which was unacceptable for $20 in itself.

The small box of chips and the 2x cans of drink, Were the highlight of the order Altogether the total was over $75 and 90% of it went straight in the rubbish bin.

Highly disappointed as we thought we would try a new place in ashburton and we certainly won’t be doing that again, this is the first time we have been angry with food we have ordered in ashburton, if we didn’t live in rakaia I would have driven back and got my money back. With it being on the pricier side that may have been justified if the food was delicious or at the very least edible but it wasn’t. It was a complete waste of money. DON’T EAT OR ORDER...

A bit of a surprise! Have grabbed meals twice while over-nighting in Ashburton during the 2020-21 Xmas period. Food was fab, very tasty and full of flavor - naans were execellent. Spice level med-hot was bang on!!. Not quick when waiting for our orders to be made (last time it took 45 minutes for them to make our takeaway order of 3 curries and 1 naan) however the wait was worth it. Overpriced and tasted awful. Ordered veggie korma and they used all frozen veggies and a tomato curry that tasted almost like Italian spaghetti sauce. Also, don’t expect any free tamarind or mint sauce to go with the papadum. Only thing that tasted even remotely Indian was the naan which was over priced.
