Ton’s Thai — Restaurant in Canterbury

Charming Thai is the place of great food and a amazing experience, or that's what I had heard. When I walked in, the decorations looked wonderful, but then again how can you go wrong with black and gold? The menu looked bold, but unfortunately it was outdated, it needs innovation. But never the less the food looked delicious, and little too good to be true. It is understandable that they are a busy restaurant and cannot change the menu at regular intervals, but they should at least change the chef special once in a while; I have only been there about 5 times, and I already have gotten tired of the menu. As my order came, I noticed the restaurant had minimum cleaning, just enough pass the health inspection. Which brings me to the next point, the plates, the plates looked outdated, old, scratches everywhere. So far the experience wasn't the best, but I still had the food to look forward to. When the food came, I noticed the presentation, it reminded me of 1980 presentation, TERRIBLE!!! But the real highlight of the food was the tofu, absolutely loved it! Although we had takeaway and recommended by a local the first impression was the incredible politeness in taking the order. My wife was referred to as Madam in a courteous way. So off we went to collect and the restaurant was busy yet the counter staff knew who we were and what our order was. Would have easily eaten in as the staff all seemed focused and efficient.

Once we got our order home it was amazing and the same theme as other reviews continues.

Good size containers and generous meat portions made for a fabulous meal and the following night.

Peanut sauce stir fry is by far the best dish I have had here. I will always order it when I’m in Ashburton. Highly recommend this dish to all.

Honey Teriyaki Chicken was also delicious.

Can also recommend the Pad Thai, always a safe favourite to order.

I did not enjoy the Panang Curry, lacked flavour and was gluggy.
