Ashburton Armadillos — Restaurant in South Island

I personally loved going to Armadillos, but unfortunately we didn't have such a good experience.we booked our table for 18:15 and had been seated a good 15min before a big group of ppl came in, our order was forgotten and everyone else was recieving food before us, the waitresses did apologize and said they would give us complimentary drinks. When the food came out my Ribs was burnt to the point that i couldn't eat it, my wife got more fish over cooked fish and one scallop in the dish she ordered and the croquettes was still ice cold in the center,my son got his food 10min after we did. I called for the manager which took another 10min to come and see me and by that time i had enough, she offered to recook our food herself and a 50 dollar voucher which was good of her but i didn't come there to eat the managers food and wasn't going to wait 50min again. I told her im not paying for this food, so she grabbed the voucher and was rude to me and stormed off. I heard the chef come out and complain to the waitresses how busy he was. Was here for a friend's celebratory dinner recently. There was a group of approximately 30 of us - booked in advance. No pre-orders taken, just order from menu when seated.

Often this situation makes me anxious, especially since we'd driven from Christchurch for the meal. I've been part of many group bookings and ended up with HUGE wait times, and/or terrible food.

Not so with Armadillos in Ashburton. Their management was top notch. We could choose from the full menu, rather than being limited to a set menu list too.

The wait staff were genuine and friendly, they regularly checked in with us for drinks top ups. The kitchen staff rocked it too!

The food came out promptly and was delicious, and well-cooked. We were stuffed by the end of the meal, and walked away really happy with our experience.

What makes this more stunning is there was apparently ANOTHER large group on the other side of the restaurant and we still had a great experience!!

Stopped in at the tables outside at lunch time just for some water, and menus were supplied. I decided to order a cappuccino, and then because my partner and I were so impressed with the wide selection on the menus (extra sheet added to the normal menu) we ordered a Japanese Teriyaki Chicken to share between us. The cappuccino was excellent, and the meal rich in flavours and presentation.

The service was excellent too. The manager who took our order was pleasant, jokey without being rude, polite and helpful; the waiter who delivered the order came to the correct table - both times before ours and ours. This my partner commented on because neither tables had numbers and the waiter was not the one who took the order.
