Burgers & Beers Inc. Cranford — Restaurant in Christchurch

I was craving a burger...let me be clear I'm always craving a burger I've eaten burgers on the west coast the east coast (south island) and many places in between. I've had Ferg burger (over rated) also terrible service of late check the NZ Herald. But I digress point is I love burgers. We walked in on Friday night 21st just after 8pm and we're shocked to see 15 people seated at tables two delivery guys patiently waiting but only two staff!!! We could see the stress these two staff were under and being from hospo ourselves we had that sinking feeling. We ordered at the counter I got the Super burger burger as the Big one betta burger bargain (combo) and my partner got the Billy beef and blue as the Burger and beer (combo) and took a seat towards the back. We both noticed no music was playing and it definitely took away from the atmosphere. We watched as the front of house lady rushed round as more delivery guys came and went and several locals popped in to grab takeaway orders. Both of us amazed the the one staff member in the kitchen was somehow getting the orders cooked in a timely manner (based off other reviews though can see how keeping up this pace would lead to mistakes). Our food arrived and we tucked in and I got to say this very large beef burger was fantastic one of the best I've had, did I mention I've also traveled to Canada, USA, UK, Australia always get me a burger or three during these trips. So yeah it's a..... dare I say it its world class burger. The chips were also great loved them and still found them making their way to my mouth long after I was full. With a few more staff a bit more maintenance around the place and some decent background music this place could also be world class. Such a shame it's more of a diamond...

Called in early on a Saturday evening for a take out. The venue was quiet, I'm not sure if this is because it was early or the place is quieter these days.

Two super bugga burger meals for $61.80.

Really, really huge burgers with proper crispy bacon, an egg and fresh lettuce. Well balanced with sauce and a relish/chutney. The chips are fat, crispy and fluffy inside, cooked in Tallow for a delicious flavour (could do with a touch more gravy please), very different to the classic golden yellow frozen mass produced chip that is all too common these days. Not the first time we've had these big lads and they didn't disappoint, pretty consistent in my opinion over the last decade. These aren't your more recent flash hipster type burgers in a charcoal bun topped with gold leaf or with an oozing wet wagyu patty that makes eating tricky, a little more of an old school offering; wider, very little patty slip and thus easier to eat. We'd be back more often, but times are really hard and take out is a real treat.

Superb value and remember to support your local hard working burger joint, so they can still be there to serve you in the future.

The place was nice and quiet, I was able to hear our conversation, there was not too much noise, atmosphere was great but service was a bit of a downer our burgers were okay, but a bit tasteless, it was awesomely massive which is amazing, but the taste was just not there. The chips and gravy was to die for. Service was a tad bit disappointing, there was no waiter at our table to check up if the food was okay or to even take our orders, we had to go up to the counter to order our food. When the food was brought out to our table, it was all packed on to one tray for both of us so we just ate our food on top of the burger bags that the burgers were packed in, the free water tap I dont think its fresh water, was warm! The waiter also just walked away after putting the tray of food on the table while my friend was talking to him, I dont think that was nice! It was our first time trying burgers & beers out but so far a bit disappointing. I know you guys can do a lot better! I still want to keep trying other stuff from the menu, also would be nice to have pictures of the food on the menu, it helps a lot when deciding what to order, but good prices just wish the food...
