Ris'tretto Cafe — Restaurant in Christchurch

This was once a great cafe, now under new ownership. Don’t be fooled by the awards that belonged to the previous owner, with the latest award from 2013. Went a month ago and saw that things looked different, flavours were different but put it down to a one off. Came back today and much to my dismay, it looked like I had walked into a cafe in New Delhi. I did a full 180 and went to a well esteemed cafe down the road, Little Pom’s, which uses quality ingredients and has love for the customers.

Much like most businesses in Christchurch, this is going to be the story of another downfall of a once great business now taken over by greedy Indians with no love for the customer or what made the original great. Your favourite recipes have changed and have now been replaced by cheap ingredients, masala spices now linger in your scones. Your coffees just don’t taste the same. Be my guest, compare this to the original Ristretto and you will be very disappointed.

Menu said "Ask us about gluten and dairy free options " but when I asked, these were scrambled eggs or open chicken sandwich with cheese and pesto excluded. Presentation was pretty average. Bread with a piece of lettuce, extremely overcooked and burned chicken topped with heaps of mayonnaise. Couldn't get fork in chicken and was so dry and shrivelled, that I gave up trying to eat it. All 8 people at our table ordered same thing and had the same experience with the chicken. Waste of money. Chef needs lessons on how to cook. Enjoyed my almond latte and orange cake. Staff were pleasant enough. Probably better if you don't have a food intolerance but I don't recommend the open chicken sandwich...
