Sushi Ball House - the best rice balls you will have in Christchurch, and reasonable value for what you get.

The food here is consistently good, and a medium rice ball is enough for a very filling meal.

Despite this, Sushi Ball House lets itself down consistently when it comes to delivery of their exceptional rice balls… If you visit after 4pm on a week day, expect them to be out of ingredients for rice balls (despite the interior of the store being filled with boxes of oil, and the room out the back being very full of other boxes of ingredients), or simply “not doing any more rice balls for the day”. They will try and sell you on their pre-packed sushi which is on display, however this is an attempt to clear stock which, most of the time, has been sitting there for most of the day.

I gave them the benefit of the doubt multiple times, as I was a regular week day visitor after work (myself and my partner love their rice balls), but have now been let down one too many times.

I believe they do not want to run the risk of having excess ingredients (chicken, rice etc) on hand at close, but it is bad form to not be able to buy the name-sake product of the business ~2 hours before closing.

If this was a one off, or if you work/live nearby and can get in at lunch time or early afternoon, this would be a 5 star...

Have been a regular customer for some time now, good tasting sushi although ever since the hike in prices sushi balls have been decreasing in size with no warning. Therefore my utility received has been diminishing rapidly as the increased price is not being warranted by the size of the rice ball. Sushi Ball House created attention through their large sizing of rice balls, but this market difference is being closed in comparison to competitors. With Inflation reaching 8% in the 3rd quarter these already high prices of $9 (medium size) are becoming unattainable for many consumers. As your brand has been gaining popularity and had growth in the market share, bulk buying more goods e.g. rice, may reduce costs for your business which you may be able to reflect on the consumer. Hidden Jem in Ilam for students! Awesome rice balls, which are usually worth the cheap price and are very tasty. However, I tend to eat here every few weeks and I’ve noticed the inconsistent rice ball sizing as of late. I always get a Medium rice ball and sometimes I’ll get a rice balls that’s massive, and other times I’ll get a rice balls that’s on the smaller size. It’s a little frustrating when the sizing is so inconsistent, because I’m not sure what size to order due to it being all over the place.
