I've liked these pies in the past but I've since become more of a critic. The pastry to filling ratio is not pleasant, I have to make my way through 5-6 bites of JUST pastry to get to the filling, the filling is too hot to eat out of the shop that I can't properly taste it and the base of the pies are so soft and the wall and crust of the pie so hard that as I tentatively bite through a pie so as not to burn my tongue from the filling, I end up eating mostly the pastry that makes up the base which would otherwise let the filling cave through as it's so soft. It's honestly a juggling act. It seems I have to get through a few bites of mostly pastry to get to each bite of the pie contents, leaves me wanting more.
This isn't rhetorical, a genuine question - how hard is it to make pies like the ones at Shefield bakery? If you've had one you know what I'm talking about, perfect temperature, perfect pastry to filling ratio, doesn't fall apart as you eat it. Not trying to be rude, just honest.

Read moreStopped in here the other day, always wanted to come. The staff were kind and I ordered 2 mince savories and an egg sandwich, I didn't know they had the best pies until I tried one. Absolutely delicious and the egg sandwich didn't fail to impress. Overall an amazing Bakehouse, best in Christchurch. If it meets my criteria, it could meet everybody...

You have...
