Mex It Up (Rototuna) — Restaurant in Hamilton

Last night we ordered the Ultimate California Burrito, the Mexican Burger and the Loaded Mexican Fries. This was some of the worst "Mexican" food I've ever eaten. I would barely call it Mexican food, anyone who has been to America or Mexico knows that Mexican food is amazing. The worst item was the Mexican Burger. The picture online looks mouth watering. On arrival it was like the frumpy malnourished white cousin of the Mexican Burger. What should be a burger overflowing with deliciousness is instead a 1cm layer of mush between a pale sesame bun. The "beef" in all our meals seemed like some kind of fake meat or maybe even cat food. I didn't know we sold such poor quality meat in NZ. The "California Burrito" is nothing but fries and some weird stuffing flavoured roast chicken mixed with the nasty beef inside a tortilla. Having lived in California for 2 years I can tell you that it is absolutely not a California Burrito. The Loaded Mexican Fries were ok, the fries themselves were crispy and yummy but again the weird beef let that dish down too. I ordered a burrito. The guy taking my order didn't tell me that there was an extra charge for toppings and I realized after I paid, so I asked him to cancel and refund the toppings because he hadn't even started making it yet. The first thing he said was HOW? He said they don't have cash and they don't have a system for refunding cards. I contacted the owner of the place and he said he would refund my money but I never got it. It's strange that a takeaway shop doesn't have cash or a system for refunding. This was my first visit to this place and a bad customer service experience. If there is an additional charge, please clearly inform the customer. Then I had a chance to say no thanks. I just ordered a uber eats order with mex it up for the first time, and let me tell you. I devoured that, ate it up, inhaled it if you will. The portions of everything were almost perfect. I say almost as I reackon the nachos could’ve had a bit more meat, but everything else was perfect. In all my 19 years of living and my 3 years of buying take out myself and ordering nachos, I can say that most places do not put enough meat ! But mex it up has obviously proved my thoughts of “these places be stingy with the meat portions” WRONG. The food it self was spaktatula, the Avo, the tomato and onion, the black beans, the beef….
