This is a super cool place for a drink and a meal.
My family and I dined here on a Sunday evening in mid March. We sat outdoors, and with a light breeze blowing and some mild heat lingering from the day's sun, it was pleasant and comfy.
Service was quite fast, despite my trepidation when I arrived, after taking a look at the casually attired young staff members. Our table waiter looked like a school kid, but he turned out to be efficient and polite. The drinks took 15 minutes to arrive, but I was surprised that the food followed shortly thereafter, in fact before we had finished our drinks.
I ordered the beef nachos, and what a generous serving it was, with lashings of tender, sliced beef, a bit stringy but flavoursome and accompanied by all manner of nachos-style goodies like smashed avocado, sour cream, beans and of course the main thing that gives this dish itās real punch, the crispy fried tortilla chips.
Everyone in our group enjoyed their meals. We paid 140 pesos for three adult meals, one kids meal, two beers and a cold drink. Being a visitor to N.Z., that didnāt strike me as being overly pricey, especially given the high quality of the meals, nice ambience and the fast and efficient service.
There are ample toilets at the back of the venue although by 7.30pm they were dirty and in need of a clean up.
Parking doesnāt seem to be too much of a problem in any of the nearby side streets, although we were lucky to find a spot right outside.
This is a busy joint I believe on a weekend, so itās probably worth reserving a table, as we did. It was about ¾ full, and the atmosphere was quite lively and energetic, but also casual, laid back and relaxed. Perfect for a night out with...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe went to Long Bay Surf Club to celebrate a birthday recently. The intention was to meet there and proceed to the viaduct, for a celebratory dinner. We didn't make it to the viaduct. We noticed the food coming out to the other diners, was looking very good. It was well presented and they were good sized portions. We asked ourselves was the porch light on but nobody at home - were we a couple of slices short of a loaf?? Why traipse all the way over the bridge when what we had on offer in front of us was just perfect. So we picked up a menu and looked at the offerings. The served bar snacks, larger bite sized dishes and mini pizzas for those in a hurry but they also had a nice sounding full dinner menu. The fact that the beers were well priced had a bearing on it as well - they were offering 5x Heineken's for $25.00. Well we were all over that faster than a knife fight in a phone booth. We didn't have to wait an Owls age for the food to arrive either. There were about eight different meals with 2x steak meals on offer; a "Surf and Turf" option, which consisted of a generous and well cooked steak with prawns including a fresh salad. The Steak Fritte" option included a steak, oven roasted tomatoes, portobello mushrooms and some very chunky pomme frittes. Three of us had the various steak meals, and all agreed that it was finer than frogs hair. The other guys in our party had the spare ribs, pizza and the chilli salted calamari dishes, all of which were generous and very tasty. It was a nice surprise to find that quality of food being presented locally and a very pleasant way to spend a birthday. All in all, we left there feeling as happy as a tick on a...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy family went to the Long Bay Surf Club to celebrate my Dad and his twin brothers 65th birthday. There was a group of 9 adults and 4 children.
Overall we were very unimpressed for the following reasons:
Not greeted on entry. Had to walk around and find a staff member to show us where our table was.
Good quality and quantity. Chicken Parmigiana was $31 for some fries, small amount of chicken breast not even crumbed and a tasteless garden salad. Kids burger was literally bread and cheap burger patty... No sauce, lettuce, cheese, tomato or anything. I would have been disappointed if I had paid $3 at a fish n chip shop.
Extremely high prices for what you are getting. Food was way over priced for the poor quality. Cocktails are generally around the $18 mark.
Wait times for food was easy 1 hour plus. Not ideal when you have 4 children!
It was so noisy you could barely hear one another. It was like dining in a sports bar, but being charged fine cuisine prices.
Service staff was not that friendly or personable. We had service staff squeezing behind us all night too.
Members of our group gave 2 members of staff our honest feedback in a pleasant manner, with the hope that this might be passed on to the manager and we might have been approached to discuss this but we were not approached by a manager or anything.
We understand this is a new establishment but first impressions matter and with this I don't think any of us will be back in a hurry. Very disappointed and wish we had gone somewhere else to celebrate.
This place has great potential and a cool set up and could be awesome with the right menu, pricing and...
