Homestead Cafe — Restaurant in Howick

I was struggling if I should write a review here but I feel like at least I want to let the cafe know my experience today made me feel quite unhappy and really wanting to vent.

I ordered a KIDS fish & chips and food from the cabin for myself. I am quite sure that I told the lady at the cashier that I wanted a KIDS MENU Fish and Chips. And double confirming it's KIDS right? She said yes.

Afterwards, another waitress brought our food and I realized it 's a regular fish and chip. I asked if this is the kids menu one but the waitress said I should order Fish "Finger" and chips for the kids menu one - I just realized I actually spent double price for the food we actually can't finished and wasted.

I could see the waitress actually went to speak to the cashier but they never return to clarify nor apologize for the mistake. It was a really unpleasant experience.

This was my 2nd time visiting this Cafe ( not many times cause my 1st experience wasn't pleasant too , I wonder why staffs there never look friendly and welcoming ?) And I thought I could change my mind trying to love this cafe. Unfortunately it gave me another day of bad experience and kind of ruin the mood of...

I ordered an Ice Mocha after my walk.

Usually when I ask for Ice Mocha (at different places), it’s cold milk with coffee and added chocolate flavour (liquid consistency) like an iced latte but what I got here was a Frappe.

I DID NOT ask for Mocha FRAPPE nor a MILKSHAKE.

When I placed the order, the staff were lovely and all smiley.

The moment it was delivered to me, I gently asked I didn’t request for frappe? Isn’t it supposed to be watery? And there was no smile, with a plain face the same person responded ‘ This is Ice Mocha’.

I live in the same neighbourhood and have visited this cafe for coffee a few times. I was disappointed.

It’s a very cold morning but I just wanted something cool after a long sweaty walk. Frappe is a worst idea, because the staff wasn’t approachable I ended up just taking the drink home.

Really really disappointing and bad customer service from the staff here today. Ordered food and 1 meal came, but by the time the first meal was finished and eaten the other persons meal still hadn’t arrived. When we went to the counter to let them know, staff were rude with no apology at all and with an attitude said that the meal just came out (at the same time that we went to the counter). Instead of apologising or anything the man was too worried about asking the other staff member to quickly get the meal before it gets dirty as I’m assuming they will just give it to the next customer. They just took the money from the till and gave it back as to try and shoo us away. (An apology and acknowledgement goes a long way by the way) this is not how you should run a business.
