Loved this place for years. One of the best BBQ pork and brisket in the country. Been going there with BFF for beef brisket noodle soup for years. To die for.
The place is very clean, friendly staff. The BBQ pork is a bit more $$$ than some but it really makes up in flavour. Their duck is amazing. one of the best I've ever had not sure about the chicken or the port belly.
The price for the noodle soup is good $12.5 for the large bowl including a can of drink. They recently redone the bathroom, I think I always look at in a Chinese resturant is the bathroom, since the beginning the bathroom is always clean.
The parking can be a bit of a pain sometime only because they share it with other stores. But I've never left before there no parking. can always park on the road.
They have more choices in noodles than many other places. I think they have 3 choices of noodle so it's good if you don't like the thin egg noodle. Only thing is, they don't have fry...
Read moreWelfare BBQ Meats is a strange place. It's kind of "cheap chinese" - $15 per main is getting rare in Auckland It's usually busy - It's not uncommon for people to be waiting outside (for their pickup, or for seats) It's noisy - we shared a table with strangers because everything is jammed in (see "it's kind of cheap Chinese above" - think Dominion Road style) Our food was delivered with 5 minutes (although it did take a while for the busy front of house staff to take our order) The menu is what you would expect in a place called BBQ meats. And didn't disappoint (although the menu us small, and on pur last visit, they had no duck left)
If ypu are OK with going somewhere different, and are OK with people around you using different languages, you should give Welfare BBQ Meats a try. But be warned - it is a...
Read moreWhen the place is FULL of Chinese it is a pretty good bet that they will be serving top notch Chinese food and I was not dissapointed, the Soy Chicken was to die for, I have never eaten chicken so moist or full of flavour, for me the stand out dish but I believe their reputation is based on the magic they work with duck. It was great and only slightly behind was the pork. All in all faultless. The surroundings may not spin everyones wheels but if you fellow europeans want excellent quality food at an unbelievably low price learn to eat where these " new kiwis " do, get over whatever it is that holds you back from eating in these ethnic cafes and enjoy the pleasant service, good humour and love of food that a good local Chinese eatery can offer. Highly...
