Ormiston Cafe & Bistro — Restaurant in Howick

Ordered the Ormiston Breaky Board, Eggs Benedict with Bacon and Grilled Chicken with a Bowl of Fries. First would like to acknowledge the great customer service by staff. Found it odd that we had to place our order up at the counter and pay first before we had eaten. Coffee was great. The food was really average. Hash browns were average. Eggs were ok but you could still taste the water they were cooked in. Bacon was not fully cooked and the tomato was barely grilled. The sausages we were given were the standard sausages you would get in a NZ takeaway. The grilled chicken that came with the Eggs Benedict was basically a boring shredded up chicken with some herb sprinkling and seasoning. Not that appetising. Last but not least the Bowl of Fries we received were absolutely terrible and the worst of all. Cooked in yuck dirty oil, brown looking and gross. We had to just eat anyway as we were starving. Not the type to get up and be so rude and complain in person when we had somewhere to be after eating.. So here we are as we thought this was necessary and more appropriate. Me and my partner decided to give this place a try. Around 7:45 PM we've arrived as we decided to have dinner, it's Thursday as of the time I'm making this review and on their Google Map timetable, it states they close at 9 PM but then later we're told it was 8:30 PM, it felt rather rushed and misleading and a lot of rushing in terms of eating our food. I'd recommend fixing that if possible, thanks!

In terms of service, we are happy with their overall communication for both the menu and what would be best recommended for our dining experience. We went ahead and got a milkshake and a chocolate milkshake, both were delivered in a speedy and manner, both tasted very amazing!

For our mains, we decided to get porkchop and fried rice and a butter chicken with rice and bread. They both were really amazing, definitely recommend!

I'd definitely recommend this place, I've seen some reviews that you'd think would affect your overall service and experience, but it really doesn't seem to be that way, I'd personally give it a try if it's your first time as there is always a first...
