Ocean Seafood Chinese Restaurant — Restaurant in Invercargill City

I have been to the Ocean Seafood Restaurant probably 6 times in the past 18 months and never been disappointed previously as the meals are tasty and interesting BUT this time was so poor on so many different levels. The service was poor as it looked like they had not staffed for the large groups that were in the restaurant this night, A single server who appeared out of his depth, I felt quite sorry for him as he was running between tables and serving drinks too with the help of a manager. We arrived at 6.25pm and by 7.10 pm we were asked if we wanted drinks. The drinks eventually all arrived at our table in pairs, there were 10 of them mainly beer and soft drinks. Eventually I asked if we could order for the table as it was getting later and we had young children in our group and ordered the banquet for the 10 of us. Well lesson now learnt if you order a banquet for 6 people you get the set menu with the meal big enough to feed 6 but if you are a larger number of people then that amount now needs to feed the larger group with no increase to number of dishes served. So, there was no increase in portion size for the larger group, but the restaurant charged us per person. We were asked when the final dish came to our table if we would like another dish of fried rice. Not very friendly, the restaurant needs a wash from top to bottom the chairs are black from the dirt of people sitting on them for years the floor is black from dirt. The food is awful if you are travelling through don’t eat here!

Ordered the fried rice it had far too much soy sauce. Ginger beef was passable but too saucy we also ordered the cashew nut chicken that was very similar to the ginger chicken minus the ginger they tasted the same the chicken was hard to find in the abundance of vegetables put there to hide the lack of chicken. If i wanted veges i would have ordered the stir fry veges!

The medium dry white wine is nice. The soup flavor are nice but the Lin soup isn’t real finish and so is crab. I just hope I know that.

The beef can’t tell the quality. Roasted chaw nuts is bit looks burn, taste ok though. There’s a bad one ruined. I would see looking for really good Chinese food, coz Chinese food are amazing. The price is reasonable and hope can have better business cook better.
