Queen’s Park in Invercargill is a beautiful and well-maintained park that is definitely worth a visit. The park covers a large area and offers a wide range of attractions and activities for visitors of all ages.

One of the highlights of Queen’s Park is the stunning rose garden, which is home to over 1,000 roses of various varieties. This is a great place to take a stroll and admire the beautiful blooms, especially during the summer months when the garden is in full bloom.

Another popular attraction in Queen’s Park is the aviary, which is home to a variety of birds including parrots, cockatiels, and budgies. Visitors can watch the birds as they fly around their enclosures and listen to their cheerful chirping.

For families with children, the park has a fantastic playground with a range of equipment including swings, slides, and climbing frames. There is also a mini-golf course, a train ride, and a large pond where visitors can feed the ducks.

In addition to these attractions, Queen’s Park is also home to a museum, an art gallery, and a cafe. The museum has a fascinating collection of local history exhibits, while the art gallery showcases the work of local artists. The cafe is a great place to grab a coffee or a bite to eat and relax after exploring the park.

Overall, Queen’s Park is a great destination for anyone visiting Invercargill. With its beautiful gardens, fun attractions, and range of amenities, it is the perfect place to spend a relaxing day with family...

The pride of Invercargill is Queens Park, a magnificent public park in the heart of the city. The park sprawls across 80 hectares of beautifully kept gardens, wildlife habitats, and sports areas. Highlights of this New Zealand Garden of National Significance include a stunning rose garden, a rhododendron dell, an azalea garden, a Japanese garden, bush paths through a selection of native plants, rock and herb gardens, and a stumpery. An indoor Winter Garden features tropical and flowering plants, and a range of cacti are displayed in an adjoining structure. The park also houses an impressive bird aviary, farmyard area, and animal enclosures. Queens Park is perfect for families with children. There is a popular playground, a waterpark, and plenty of space for running around. Bring your own picnic or visit the café in the centre of the park. The extensive sporting facilities in the park include an 18-hole golf course, a disc golf course, tennis courts, Cricket, Croquet, and Bowling Clubs, and a 4km fitness trail with twenty exercise stations. Whether exploring this botanic wonderland, working up a sweat on the fitness track, walking your dog down dramatic tree-lined paths, or picnicking with friends and family, Queens Park has something for everyone!

Note: Dog access is allowed if the dog is on a leash. Go here for more dog friendly walks and areas in Southland. Copied from...

It drives me mad, we are New Zealand not bl**dy England, they plant English trees and we don't have a single native NZ bird to show for it in the "Garden City" of Christchurch.

I was shocked, surprised and delighted to see the native Tūī bird unique to New Zealand thriving in the botanic gardens and belong to the honeyeater family, which means they feed mainly on nectar from flowers of native plants.

Threats: Predation and habitat loss. Christchurch is the only major city without tūī, one of the country's most beloved and melodious songbirds. How about plant some natives to save our wildlife!

The Tūī Corridor – aims to to plant 11,000 tūī-friendly plants between Banks Peninsula and the Christchurch Business District.

These attractive birds can often be heard singing their beautiful melodies before they are spotted. It is the most wonderful sound! There were fantails and wood pigeons all native to NZ here at the botanic gardens.

They have Chinese and Japanese gardens, a bird aviary with NZ and Australian birds. A rose garden and...
