Jewel Of Bombay — Restaurant in Māngere-Ōtāhuhu

I was craving butter chicken and have not found a butter chicken spot around the area I live in yet. Was searching up for butter chicken spots and came across Jewel of Bombay. Had mixed reviews so thought Id give it a try. I ordered a large butter chicken meal, with a garlic naan and also chips with butter chicken sauce.

Garlic Naan 9/10 Fresh, light and fluffy. Beautifully cooked. Delicious.

Chips with butter chicken sauce 4/10 Chips were fresh and nicely salted. Not really a good combo with the butter chik sauce drizzled over, it made the chips soggy. Didnt taste great. Wouldve preferred just normal chips.

Butter chicken and rice 3/10 In all honesty, very underwhelming. Lacking that rich creamy flavour. Very plain.

In saying that, everyone thats saying the butter chicken is delicious or that its the best butter chicken has probably not had better.

As for me, I have high expectations when it comes to butter chicken, I love a thick, creamy butter chicken with a hint of sweetness in it.

The restaurant was very sketchy and looked like it had been built 100 years ago. No water was served and the staff just look at their phone the whole time. I had to sit on the floor as there were only 3 tables and they were all taken. The Naan bread tasted like raw flour and was dryer then the Sahara desert. The curry tasted really bad and I feel like the spices they used were expired On top of that the curry tasted more sour then raw lemons. Then the mango lassi was really watery and had no yoghurt in it. In the end I recommend you never go to this restaurant as it is zero in...

Tried this place as a friend recommended it. I bought butter chicken and rice for $17.00 - the meal didn’t come with a drink or naan bread, like other places offer. $17.00 to too much money for something that doesn’t taste great and a place situated in South Auckland - where food is cheap and great. I didn’t finish this meal because it was honestly disgusting. I’m confused about the other great reviews this place gets. The place doesn’t look sanitary and the staff look like they hate...
