2nd visit here and hoped 1st visit earlier in the year was just a bad day for Mikos. Sadly not; long queues, uncleared tables, cabinet food running out. After a considerable time queuing to order, we ordered off the menu; Beef and Mushroom Risotto, Slow Cooked Beef hot pot, Salmon Bene. Had to clear and clean a table ourselves as the few, unhappy looking staff were doing other things. Waited for a long time for 2 meals and had to go and ask after 3rd meal when 1 minutes had lapsed. It arrived 5 minutes later. Food was mediocre. I didn't finish mine. I felt thankful we didn't order the fish and chips as we overheard people commenting at another table how bad the fish was and it certainly looked sub par. The atmosphere was chaotic and not relaxing at all. The staff were not helpful, friendly or service oriented at all. If you want service with a smile, neither are available here sadly. 6 hours later I was having after effects from food. It is so disappointing that this facility, providing an impression to visitors to NZ is so sub standard. Perhaps they do better at non peak times, IDK. This place was embarrassing. I thought I had reviewed the wrong cafe when the photos came up as it was unrecognizable as the establishment I visited today! The photos show amazing cabinet food, atmosphere etc. This was not close to a true...
Read moreLocation amazing obviously and convenient if you are wanting to visit the beautiful botanical gardens, but the food, service and coffee is unreliable. I've visited a few times and the cabinet food is very average (have tried various muffins and scones, and sweet treats from there and most were dry and not very good) but once had a pizza from the menu which was quite tasty. I've tried 4 takeaway coffees and all but one of them were so ridiculously hot I could barely hold the cup even after being given an extra one to pop it into. I think more barista training is needed especially for younger staff as the one good coffee I had was from a slightly older lady. Service is also quite slow, usually due to low staff numbers I think, but once when I asked for a muffin to be warmed with butter for takeaway and I had a crying baby in my arms, I had to wait over 10 minutes to get it, yet when I sat down 5 minutes later in the park to eat it, it was still stone cold! Not sure what took them 10 minutes when all they did was pop butter in the bag. To be honest I usually try to go to Hill House up the street to get some food and then go and eat it in the park - it's guaranteed to be delicious and fast service for...
Read moreA couple of months ago I shared a good review, but sadly I would give this place zero stars if it was available.
Asked for a large cappuccino and a large green tea. The price for the green tea on the board was $4.30 but was told that a large is $5.50, by the very rude manager named Natalie. We were spoken to very rudely and I would say - don't waste your money going to this cafe.
We received a small cappuccino, instead of a large and when we advised the staff they poured the small coffee into a large cup and added more milk......the coffee tasted just like hot milk with no coffee tasted at all. I also received a raspberry tea instead of a green tea, but since the service had been so bad and management had been so rude, we just walked out. If management has no customer service skills, how can you expect the staff to? Happy to give more constructive feedback to the owner if you want. The Botanical Gardens and Totara Park are one of my favourite places and I would love for the cafe to be on par with the beautiful...
