4 of us last night, Saturday, for dinner. Visited Volare as I was scoping out this restaurant for a possible group booking for a staff dinner. Great ambiance, was pretty busy with plenty of customers. The staff were lovely, and not intrusive but there when we needed them. I started with the scallop entree, which came out very quickly after we'd ordered. The flavour was nice and the scallops tender. Followed with Veal Milanese, which came with a side of seasonal vegetables. The veal was tender although overall for my taste the dish was a little bland. The seasonal vegetables consisted of broccoli, cauli, potato, and carrot. The potatoes, which I think were roasted, appeared as if they had been cooked a long time ago and re-heated, and were not that nice, left on my plate. Dessert was tiramisu, for which I had high hopes. Unfortunately the taste, texture and overall experience with this dish was a let down and I would have expected better from this restaurant. Tiramisu is my go to dessert when I see it on a menu, and I've had infinitely better renditions from lesser establishments. Portion sizes were average. My son ordered pizza (Diavola - possibly 8inch? $28.00) , which he said was OK but was disappointed by the small size for the price and a bowl of fries, which were McCains-from-the-freezer-quality, nothing special. Overall for the price point, which is upper rather than lower, I was disappointed and had expected much more based on other reviews. Will probably continue to look for our staff function...
Read moreI was hovering over booking Metita then couldn't bear the effort of an inner city drive, and very pleased I looked local. Dinner for three with starters, mains, drinks & a dessert for less than two dishes I would have otherwise paid at the aforementioned (And the two males have healthy appetites!)
"Who orders pork belly at an Italian restaurant".... Very glad we did, one of the best we have had.
Bistecca Volare was tender, perfectly cooked, and jus you want to lick off the plate as it's too good to waste!
Couldn't finish the Tagliatelle, as the starters almost put me to sleep, so I have the joy of a touch of Italian for lunch at work..... Ok who are we kidding that will be a midnight snack as lunch is too long to wait for good food.
Tiramisu was a little sponge of heaven not overly soaked, and even better as takeaway so I could lick the dish clean!
So before you dine at the well advertised and renowned restaurants because of big name (and justly deserved) chefs; check out your locals.
They cook with their hearts and plate it with love. Now THATS a dining experience money can't buy and the photos...
Read moreHey! Visiting from Canada, this was our big date night out after a month in a campervan all over Newzealand the day before we fly home. We booked a reservation days in advance. Amazing food! We ordered bruschetta to start, then I ordered the gnocchi as a main, and my husband got the lasagna. We also got the tiramisu and fondant cake for dessert. The tiramisu was light and delicious! The only downside to our date night here was being placed on their second floor, at the back. It felt like we were in a closet. The owner or one of the employees (I think it was Op?) had an 80th birthday that they had everyone sing happy birthday for, but we were the only ones upstairs and felt so left out :(. We both got all dressed up too but we were up top alone with no view (next to a wall) Even the ceiling was too low for my husband to set next to it. I wish we were on the main floor, it was a huge...
