The Bento Royal Oak is a real gem and a pleasure to visit and grab a quick bite to eat at. My favourite is the ginger pork donburi, but other family members have had the tofu don and the chicken don and all are beautifully presented, a good size and completely delicious. Friendly and helpful staff. I had the seafood udon soup which was accompanied with two pieces of of sushi (aka rice and seaweed) the sushi was fresh and delicious. However, the udon was very disappointing. The broth was very good, I'd say that the chef started with a good daishi but then proceeded to pollute it with pak and save marinara mix turning it into a mess with noodles. A shame really. We stopped by for dinner before our trip out of Auckland. The shop isn't very big but was able to accommodate our table of 6 as well as a few other tables. The menu is located above the counter, separated out into the dishes. They do have a decent selection of items. I went with the Japanese curry with potato croquette since I hadn't seen it anywhere else before. The portions were ok. A plate of curry and rice topped with the croquette.
