Great playground for a Saturday outing with kids. There are heaps of slides, swings, a see-saw, and a tall wooden house they can climb into with a ladder—ours spent ages up there. The red train is super popular (you’ll likely need to queue), but it’s a fun little ride around the park and worth doing at least once.
There’s proper shade from trees, toilets nearby, and spots for a picnic that aren’t right in the sun, which makes a big difference. If the kids get bored, you can head across the road to the Stardome—$5 entry and a nice little add-on with kids.
Also across the road is a handy little café that’s genuinely kid-friendly—think toy box, toddler table, and relaxed vibe. Love having that option when you need a coffee or snack break.

Read moreCornwall Park is always great, such a huge area in the middle of Auckland with great facilities and open spaces for everyone, especially on a beautiful sunny day having family picnics. Good playgrounds and areas and the Planetarium is fantastic. We took two grandkids there (7 & 8) for a dome done movie display of the sun and our galaxy, it was really educational and interesting and managed to keep the boys enthralled through out, what a great way to educate kids about the Earth, Sun and our Galaxy's differences. Great playground very close to the Planetarium with lots of picnic tables and shade and rooms for the kids to run around. Fantastic walks throughout the park and neat climb too the top of the mountain Maungakiekie...
Read moreThis playground is inside the One Tree Hill Domain. It has been well maintained over the years. Parking can still be an issue, since the place is so popular. The open spaces and the train ride in the playground are awesome for kids. Proximity to the One Tree Hill summit walk track is a bonus and one can easily spend half a day in this area. Sheep and cattle watching is an interesting activity for urban kids who get a taste of farmlands right in the centre of the city. Long walk tracks are also demarcated and well maintained in here. Public toilets are also available close by and another one in the Star dome observatory premises. Highly recommended for a...
