Khanz Takeaway — Restaurant in Maungakiekie-Tāmaki

Today I had the absolute pleasure of visiting Khan’s Takeaway Restaurant on Morrins Road, and I’m still thinking about the food hours later! From the moment I walked in, the experience was top-notch – warm smiles, fast service, and most importantly, incredibly flavourful food.

I ordered the Spicy Chicken Biryani and the Butter Chicken, and both dishes were beyond amazing. The biryani was packed with bold spices, perfectly cooked rice, and juicy chicken – it had just the right level of heat to satisfy spice lovers like me without overpowering the dish. As for the butter chicken – it was heavenly! Creamy, rich, and perfectly balanced with tender chunks of chicken – it’s easily one of the best I’ve had in Auckland.

The food was so delicious that I couldn’t stop at just one plate. I ended up ordering two extra servings to take home – that says a lot coming from someone who usually doesn’t double up on meals!

But it wasn’t just the food that impressed me. The service was exceptional. The two lovely ladies working there were so friendly, welcoming, and genuinely caring. They were polite, attentive, and made sure every customer felt at home. You can really tell when food is made and served with love – and this place had that warm, homely touch.

The prices were very reasonable, the portions were generous, and the restaurant was clean and well-organised. Whether you’re dining in or grabbing takeaway, they’re quick and efficient without compromising quality.

If you’re in the area or even if you’re not – make the trip to Khan’s Takeaway. It’s a true hidden gem for lovers of authentic, flavour-packed Indian cuisine. I’m so glad I stumbled upon this place – I’ll definitely be coming back, and I’ll be bringing friends and family along next time.

The food used to be really good. Went this evening and the lamb kabsa that I always get has significantly changed in quality and size. Way smaller portion, and just not the same taste. The lettuce was all yuck too. The last time we went the hummus was also off, it absolutely stunk like rotten milk the next day. We have been going for the past year or so, and had been a staple in our takeaways. Very disappointed and will be finding else to go now.

Reply to owner below: No I did not order via Uber eats, I did it through meal order as I always do. Also as per my photo, that is lettuce, not cabbage. As I already said before I’m really disappointed in the food as I have been coming to you for a long time and only now has the quality gone down. I live just down the road from the restaurant so it was really convenient as well as a good restaurant but now I will be going elsewhere. So...

I made an online order to pick up on the way home. The restaurant itself is quite small with a few tables inside and outside the shop. The menu has a nice range of meaty goodies but they also no vegetarian items. I grabbed a mixed grill and a chicken kabsa. Both were really nice and very tasty. It would definitey been tastier when it was fresh off the grill, considering it was sitting for a bit before I was able to tuck in and it was still nice. I quite liked the rice and the spicy tomato sauce with the mixed grill. It is definitely a great place for tasty charcoal grilled meat.
