Four of us went for dinner yesterday after a great review by Lincoln Tan. We made a reservation the day before. We're Malaysians and we love our food. My review is based on us regularly eating out and comparing The Walawwa to other restaurants. Overall experience was 50/100. Positives a) Lamb fried rice was very tasty. Recommended ! b) Lamb curry was tasty but too much fat in the lamb c) Kottu roti chicken was tasty and good serving portion. d) Staff were very friendly and explained clearly the dishes and were helpful in making recommendations. e) Restaurant was full and staff were busy with Uber Eats as well. Negatives. a) Fish curry - all four of us felt the tuna fish curry was off. I asked the waitress to have the chef taste the fish and she returned saying the fish was ok. To her credit she recommended we try the chicken devilled dish. So we did. The chicken devilled dish was deep friend chicken nibbles with a tasty dark sauce with red and green capsicums and onions. The chicken was deep friend and quite tough and chewy to eat as it was too crispy. b) the Pol Roti was too tough for us. It was hard. It was served with seeny sambal and curry. The sambal and curry were tasty but the roti was too tough. c) we waited for 40 mins before we were served probably due to the number of people in the restaurant. They were really busy. d) we had ordered a roti as well but this did not turn up. Overall experience was ok. Ambience was good. I think they need to work on their service turnaround and getting the bill right as they took some time to get the bill right....
Read moreI have recently (09/05/21)went to Walawwa with my family for lunch. It was my first visit and unfortunately the experience was not a good one.The restaurant was busy and we had to wait more than an hour to get our food.I understand a restaurant can get busy during weekend ,but the staff must have curtesy to inform the customer about waiting time. After ordering some starters, mains and drinks, and takeaways, this was the first time I experienced that takeaways were served before the order for dine in.I don’t understand why the staff waits to serve starters, mains and drinks all together.Instead they can serve drinks and starters while the mains get ready. We had to eat what we ordered for take away after reaching the maximum limit of hunger. After waiting more than one hour when I asked the girl about foodI got to know that my order was taken wrong.Pathetic! Then they serve drinks with straws up side down.I had to ask them to replace them. Finally food was served and not cutlery. I had to ask 2 times for cutlery sadly. After waiting more than one hour I was expecting some nice food but unfortunately food was too much oily and that ruined my whole night with digestion issues.I am sad that this service destroyed the image I had ...
Read moreWe came by for a lateish dinner after playing futsal nearby since it was now of the few places open on a Tuesday night. It is located on Basin View Lane, just off Queens Road. The menu looked quite interesting and we ordered a few things to share. We did ask for mild since there were some people who weren't a fan of spicy food. Most of the items came out spicy. I thought the level was ok though. Out of all the items, the kottu rotti was the most interesting since I hadn't come across something like it before. It was almost like a noodle dish with the roti cut into strips with the meat and sauce all over. It was quite tasty and the spiciest of the lot. Their curries were also quite nice, particularly the potato curry with the flavoursome curry. The biriyani was a pleasant surprise since it came out with fried chicken and deep fried egg. The string hoppers were also quite interesting. We had the lamb curry and it also had a lentil curry with it, both tasty and a little spicy, I thought the food was quite flavoursome and the curries had different flavours which were nice. It was also spicy so probably not the best place for the...
