After a harrowing but fun experience running a FRESH FM radio show hour my co-host and I stopped for a drink and a bite to eat. Nice and quiet. Friendly quiet staff. Warm sunny day with Berry Cider and a HUGE bowl of Nachos. A little surprised disappointed at being told quite sternly to turn off a song that I was sharing briefly with my co-host. Understandable that for a moment it may compete with their music but the gruff attitude totally killed our warm sunny vibe. That and the fact there were children there yelling and mucking around loudly that were totally ignored.
Apologies for sounding old and grumpy, and empathy for the parents who by now were embarrassed at having to consistently tell at them to be quite. And, acknowledge that S&P want to create a family friendly environment, but...
Please don't take your frustration out on us chilled, good vibes ADULTS that come to a PUB to have an ALCOHOLIC beverage and converse because I enjoy going to Sprig & Fern bars and almost considered not going back.
Could have been a bad day, but a reminder to people in hospitality - we're here to have a good time and enjoy ourselves. Your job is to create a welcoming haven from the norm. That's...
Read moreThis bar is located near Tahunanui Beach. After spending 3 nights in Nelson I'll definitely be back. During the days of February 18th to 20th February 2016 we were mainly served by a young lady who was simply excellent. I was offered a taste test in regards to their large range of beers which was very thoughtful. On the Friday night we headed back to see what the vibe was like. A mixture of people and it was just fine. My only issue was a bar man who was wearing the uniform smoking at a near by table on the outside. He was turning his head to avoid blowing smoke at his compatriots at their table and the result was us taking the full smoke storm. I don't like to see bar staff drinking at tables and treating environments like they own them. All in all though a...
Read more(Nov 2007) One of 3 Sprig & Fern pubs attached to Harringtons / Tasman Brewing. This pub, housed in a beautifully converted Edwardian cottage just outside of the Nelson CBD, is one of the best pub / bar combos I have been to in Australasia (indeed perhaps the best). Full of locals from all walks of life as well as a never ending stream of folks coming in to fill up ’riggers’ (ie 2lt plastic bottles) of any one of the 20-odd Tasman / Harringtons brews on tap. The take-ways are sold at bargain prices (say $9 each). It warms the hart to see the locals showing such support for a small brewer (try finding this...
