Bay's Takeaway — Restaurant in North Island

30/4/23 - On mission in the Southern burbs to hit up Island Bays crowning jewel.

Meal: Fish n Chips and potato fritters Total cost: $12.40

Not off to an ideal start as I thought I ordered a paua fritter but got two potato fritters 🤦🏽‍♂️

Anywho… Fish - (Warehou) nice large fillet with a great crust on it. A tad bit greasy but that didn’t detract from the beautiful tasting fillet. Fillet was clean and fresh and boardering on melt in your mouth territory!

Chips - Hand Cut!!! Cooked well with a nice bite and soft on the inside! Portion size was generous.

Took with me two pieces of buttered bread with Best Foods mayo which was an excellent accompaniment to the fish and hand cut chips!

The chips were damn near perfect! Well worth the Sunday drive out from Petone!

The shop is right next to the Island Bay bar. There is a car park and access from the back...

I have been a loyal customer for many years and it's been disappointing to see the quality slowly decline and prices increase beyond its worth. My last meal was awful you could taste the cooking oil they used needed to be changed this was my " I'm done" moment. My chips tasted like wet hard cardboard which put me off the rest of my dinner. I have rung my order in on several occasions only to be still waiting on pick-up, the longest being upto three quarters of an hour after being told 15-20 mins. I watched people walk in off the street and place an order and recieve there's before me, even though I bought this situation to the attention of staff even the fact Id been waiting almost 45 minutes for a pork fried rice, chips and potatoes fritters, it was not sorted.I just got stares from the young staff. Worst experience ever! Ordered online at 5:34pm for a 6:06pm pick up. Arrived and asked to listen out for my name which was never called. Approached the counter at 6:56pm and asked if the order was ready at which point I was advised that they had no burger buns so no burger and they would give a refund. Meanwhile the rest of the order had been sitting in the warmer for who knows how long which was super soggy once we opened at home plus the prawn chop suey was not prawn chop suey but something else that was like warm. I appreciate that it was a super busy night but the lack of customer service and poor communication was appalling. So roughly an hour and a half later we returned home burgerless with soggy fish and chips and some very hungry kids. Will...
