Dawat Indian Restaurant — Restaurant in North Island

I'm new to Plymouth, (as most of you realize from my pune reviews) and I was wandering around Bell block when I stumbled upon Masla Craft. It had been over two week since I had Indian food, so I decided what the heck. As you walk into the restaurant u are overwhelmed with the welcoming Aroma of Indian spices. The ambience too is pretty Indian, with red walls and a few Indian details. I ordered for a tandoori chicken. I honestly feel one can judge an entire (Indian) restaurant based on solely their tandoori chicken. (Yesssss... I know that doesn't make sense to most of you.) The first question I asked the restaurant is if the chicken was really cooked in a (tandoor) clay oven with a coal fire. Unfortunately it is cooked in a gas grill, apparently New-Zealand safety laws make it really hard to have a fully functional tandoor in restaurants. I was asked if I would like my tandoori chicken medium or spicy. Unfortunately I opted for spicy (based upon the assumption that Indian food would be more subtle).In all honesty the tandoori chicken lacked a few automats and the chillie paste was over used. Worst take away experience i have ever experienced for several reasons.

1. high price for low quality food, the butter chicken was watery and tasted average.

2. curry as served in circle containers instead of rectangular ones, which seemed to be a smaller serving size as normally we would have leftovers (im not 100% sure because of reason 3)

3. the circle containers are cheap and poor quality and the lids come off very easily, this resulted in piping hot watery butter chicken spilling out first turning the bag to mush then runing down my partners lap causing superficial burns to her thigh and groin, and potentially ruining her hoodie, jeans and passenger seat with stains.

We are from Auckland and our gran took us here for dinner before we go back up to Akl tomorrow. Every dish we ordered was amazing! Loved every bite of it! Chicken tikka was so juicy! Also, the garlic naan was beautiful! Best one I've ever tried! All the curries we have ordered was a good portion and a lot of flavour to it!
