Queen Sally’s Diamond Deli in Lyall Bay, Wellington, is a gem of a café that exudes an alternative vibe, perfectly matched by its eclectic interior. Housed in an old house, this small café is a burst of color and character, featuring quirky decor like a flying horse with a cowboy hat lamp.
When I visited on a bustling weekend, the café was crazily busy, a testament to its popularity. Despite the crowd, the service was prompt and friendly. The coffee was as good as it gets, and the food was equally impressive. With a strong emphasis on meatless offerings, the deli showcases a delightful array of vegan and vegetarian options, including beautiful samosas, salads, and filled wraps. There are only two meat options available, making it a paradise for those seeking delicious plant-based meals.
The deli also offers a selection of fresh bread, pies, pastries, and salads, alongside homemade preserves, old-fashioned sweets from Arrowtown, Earthend Honey, and treats from the Wellington Chocolate Company. It's clear that Queen Sally’s Diamond Deli is not just about great coffee and food but also about supporting local and homemade products.
Overall, Queen Sally’s Diamond Deli is a fun and fanciful place that has become a staple in Lyall Bay. Whether you’re in the mood for a perfect cup of coffee, a hearty meatless meal, or a unique shopping experience in their deli section, this café is...

The last at least 4 times I have popped in, I have had extremely rude people on the cash register, who speak to you in a nearly condescending tone, like they’re above you and don’t want to be there. I have also had several times where my coffee was made wrong (asked for oat milk but made with whole milk) and when I ask politely if it was oat milk they have either acted incredibly annoyed, or even said I didn’t order that, or that yes it is when I literally saw them pop whole milk in before I realised it was my coffee. Just today, I ordered an iced coffee and it was made hot, I asked if it was mine and the lady said “well is this your name”. When I said yes but I ordered ice she took it back, glared and said she’ll get it remade. Then I heard her “whispering” to another staff member about how I ordered decaf and making fun of it? It’s a shame because the food is great but they really need to look at...
