After coming here for years and never having any issues, twice in one visit we had issues with the bar manager. I understand there’s a no outside food policy but after already ordering a table full of food (which took an hour and 40 to arrive) my son who had specific food issues wouldn’t eat. I asked a very lovely girl at the bar who said she was the manager and explained the situation. She said it was ok for him to eat the hot chips from over the road- we were in a booth and not very visible. Enter the person who was super unhelpful about our tables prams earlier, saying absolutely not. She doesn’t care who I spoke to, she’s the manager and no. I told her I found she was being rude because instead of seeking out the other staff member and resolving she was hard out just having a go.

SUPER DISAPPOINTING ATTITUDE FOR ANYONE WITH KIDS OR KIDS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS.

WOULD...

Got to the bar at 1:15 pm, Wednesday. About 30% busy. Walked into the smell of dog. Should've walked out then! The vibe was chill. Fresh air through the pub too - love. We ordered korean wings, chicken bites and shoestring fries. The latter two came out luke warm. Returned the fries and a hot minute later got fries that were only slightly warmer. Chicken bites were luke warm too but I didn't want to make a fuss and return them. They also seemed like they'd gone from packet to batter to frier to plate. All the pieces of fat and veins that chefs remove were present and I felt sick. The wings weren't much warmer. My lunch companion did not enjoy them.

Service was OK. The coloured chick at the bar was welcoming and happy to sort out the fries. Nice accent!

Music was OK. Bar was clean as were the bathrooms but the dog smell...

Drink service was good and efficient — no complaints there. However, the food service was a completely different story. We were told there would be a 45-minute wait, which we accepted. After an hour and a half of waiting, I asked about the status of our order, only to be snapped at by the girl behind the bar, who told me the wait was now an hour and a half — as if we hadn’t already been waiting that long. From there, things only seemed to go downhill.

Honestly, I can't help but wonder if failing to provide food within a reasonable timeframe — especially when alcohol is being served — raises concerns about compliance with licensing...

Lively environment. Lots of places to sit. One of the better options out this neck of the woods. The burger was excellent; just how I like it to be done. Reminds me a bit of Shake Shack in the States. Bun was soft and chewy with a bit of crispness. Patties were delicious without an overly seasoned taste. The fries weren’t anything to write home about. If you want a lot of fries, don’t get a $5 add-on with your burger. Order an entirely separate bowl of them. Much more filling. The fried chicken was nicely done but the batter didn’t have much flavour. Quality fare though, just rely on the sauce to do the heavy lifting.

A nice bar. One of the Capital's most beloved breweries @parrotdogbeer has come a long way since its garage door fillery days on Vivian St. Now a distinctly 1970s retro, kiwi-as, family- (and dog-) friendly bar in Lyall Bay, @parrotdogbar "Nice" oozes kitsch nostalgia - but still in that low-key, DIY kind of way. It all began in 2011 with 3 uni students named Matt who fast-grew a brand loyalty that enabled crowd-funding of $3million. Despite their rise to fame, the founders' approachable, unpretentious ethos still applies here: come as you are, we have a beer for you.

Stopped in because our favourite fish & chip shop was closed across the road. Bar had a ton of people in for lunch. Staff were super friendly. Explained the waiting times on food which was a great reason to grab a drink. Grabbed the fish burgers (delicious) & some fried cauliflower (yum) dipping sauce was tasty as. I grabbed their stout and this was a great beer. This place is kuri friendly, so plenty of our four legged friends in the bar. This place is a vibe …. Great experience.
