Somethin' Somethin' — Restaurant in North Island

Just had an early lunch after my walk. I had 2 dogs with me and my baby. Garlic mushrooms were very tasty. I asked for a side of bacon and that is when the very bad experience started. The “chef” took the bacon from a plastic container with her bare hands, dropped it in a pan, turned around to me, cleaned her hand on her dirty apron, punched the price on the till for me to pay, then turned around to the pan and, again, with bare hands peeled the slices of bacon, 3 of them, and lay them in the pan! 😳😳😳 I just stood there in shock! Very bad attitude from this lady, which I can understand, we all have bad days! The one thing that I don’t get is bad hygiene! Petty, because the food was very tasty, but I can’t get over this. Came here for Father’s Day and has a lovely vibe. Only issue I had was I am severely allergic to egg and had asked to make sure nothing had egg in my meal. The lady at the counter understood but once I had eaten my meal. It seems they had cross contaminated my food with my allergen to egg. I understand how that can happen but it’d be nice to know that I can eat at a place with knowing I won’t have a reaction to these foods.

Best advice I could give is please use a separate grill and utensils for cooking when dealing with a customer who has an allergy, as it could end up severe for that individual to go to hospital etc. Luckily I had noticed early on that it was contaminated. I couldn’t...

Ash, Nath and the team have turned what was once Heath street cafe into somethin (Somethin’) so special. By far the best customer service in Tauranga with beautiful food, coffee and the best vibes. Such a well thought out menu. I Love how Ash & and Nathan are always experimenting and trying new flavour combos for their menu and the team is always seeking to ensure their customers are happy. Couldn’t recommend this place highly enough. They really go above and beyond.
