Suncourt Indian — Restaurant in North Island

Edited my review since I clearly didn’t know NZ makes a common Indian dish into a debauchery. The butter chicken here is not for us: we like traditional flavors, and should have done our research. That said, the food was still quite flat in flavor, so 3 stars is what I would give our experience considering even regional changes should leave some flavor behind.

Lunch special was not good at all. The “butter chicken” had a sweet overpowering flavor of tomatoes (!?). It literally tasted like a condensed can of tomato soup was used to marinade the chicken, and then the whole thing was poured into a vat. My wife cooks better butter chicken with the necessary spices, and we are far from Indian. The lamb Josh rogan was okay but also very muted in flavor. Naan was extremely cheesy which tasted good, but reminded us of “cheesy bread” from a cheap pizza shop. This was the worst Indian cuisine we’ve had in a very long time, and even for a moderate price we can’t recommend it. The cafe next door had some fresh, delicious and flavorful looking food.

Went here today. Yes I must admit the food is so delicious. There was an unfortunate side to my whole experience of the place tho. Ordered a meal...a couple came in after us ordered a meal and from the conversations with the guy over the counter they seemed to be regulars to the place. Well waiting the guy serving was giving the couple samples out of the hot display unit there. Which I did not have a problem with. I did on the other hand have a problem when he gave them my order and told me sorry my order won't be to long now. You're probably thinking how do I know it was your order he gave...Well when the supposedly order that was mine come out he look at it..looked out the window said sorry I gave your order to another then rain out the door to get it was a dead give away... unable to retrieve it I had to wait longer for him to redo it..picky you mite say...emmm maybe..but running after a meal already in the hands of someone else what's going on with covid..emm. and what's with letting them eat out of the food trays there. Great...

it was 30th august and we were enroute to Taupo from AKL and we had a small accident and my booking were cancelled and i planned for next day after my car repair. I was looking for some serious rest and relax trip. before we went to mt.rupaheu, me and my wife were exploring the dinner options in the town and I had a order from this restaurant - chowemin and dry manchurian. i dn't know guy misunderstood my order - he reversed the spices and i chowemin which i ordered for my son - he could n't eat it. My wife said - she will pass the reviews. she rang the restaurant and guy was so nice and humble, he accepted the mistake and said he will deliver the food again and he asked for a new order.

and in next 15 minutes - he was there - with a box of sweets! this is called service. you made my trip ! and we had great fun in TAUPO!

(Suggestion for manchurain - oil was not proper - it had some strong smell - may be you have used the same oil you had used for some...
