When ever you are in Taupo make it your mission to visit The Cozy Corner Shop The 35 minutes myself and my Italian Whanau experienced at 730am Friday morning was start of any day you wish for. The owner (Camilla) was setting up the outdoor furniture and getting ready for another stunning day She was genuinely welcoming and was patient with our early morning indecisiveness The menu was a great size with options for all eaters (gluten free/vege/dairy free/vegan/meatatarians too). We eventuality ordered a mix from the cabinet and kitchen ... All were delivered promptly & were delicious. My coffee was just what the doctor ordered. The community togetherness and generosity was the "surprise and delight" that blew me away....a local lady sitting by herself encouraged me to sample some chlorophyll infused water from the counter. She was charming and also very genuine in the few words we exchanged. Before leaving, she made the effort to walk across the small cafe floor to wish our table a GREAT day! We reciprocated to her friendly gesture and then she left. Camilla came over shortly after her departure to inform us that the regular customer had paid for our drinks and that is not the first time her generosity has been seen. NOW , PLEASE .... DO NOT MISTAKE that this review is written because we got FREEBIES. IT'S NOT! People being people, and not being afraid to say hi, BUT WANTING to say hello is the ultimate definition of hospitality..... And she didn't even work at The Cozy Corner Shop. The experience from walking in to leaving The Cozy Corner Shop will be one I will remember for all the right reasons I love this industry called Hospitality!
Thank you Camilla for the best Friday I have...
Read moreReally friendly staff, but sadly one of the worst food experiences we’ve had. We spent just under $200 for two people, including food, coffees, and two reusable coffee cups ($80).
Chilli eggs were watery, and the whole plate was filled with liquid. When we asked, the server said it’s “meant to be like that.” Really off-putting. Superstart breakfast (big brekkie) tasted reheated. Mushrooms were dry, bacon was soggy, beans were unpleasant, and the hash brown was overcooked. I couldn’t eat more than 30% of it. Acai bowl we confirmed before ordering that it was a real acai bowl, but it turned out to be a smoothie in a bowl. Coffees tasted burnt, which we could overlook, but definitely below standard.
The service was lovely, but unfortunately, the food quality was unacceptable for the price. After reading more reviews, we noticed a pattern of rude responses from the owner, which explains the lack of improvement.
We won’t be returning and won’t recommend this place to anyone we know. A real waste of...
Read moreOur recent visit was a bit of a mixed experience. Unfortunately, the chicken soup I ordered was quite watery, with very few fillings to bulk it up. The warm bun and butter were devine. I think the one triangle of butter was more than enough, neither of us used the other triangle. Understand it was more of a broth but it felt very overpriced at $22. I would have been happier paying around $15-$17.
The beef stew was also a little disappointing. The beef was a bit dry and overall, the dish lacked seasoning. For a relatively small portion, the $26 price tag seemed excessive
No issue with the ambiance and service was fine, we have heard good reviews from friends and family, hence the visit. However the quality of food and pricing left a lot to be desired. $48 for small portions of soup and a stew definitely didn’t feel like value for money. We'd have been happy to pay that price if the quality was there, and the portions a...
