IZU — Restaurant in Papakura

We'd heard a lot of good things about this place so were looking forward to dining But we left feeling disappointed We ordered the deluxe platter for two to share and also tempura veges for our toddler The presentation was lovely but there was just not enough food. The tasting platter you got one small piece of each item - even the karaage chicken you only got one piece each! Sashimi and Beef Tataki were a bit dry The tempura veges consisted of 1 piece each of kumara, carrot, lettuce (what? tempura lettuce??) and 1 bean... definitely doesn't not match the value for money we have experience in other Japanese restaurants across the city. We are not the sort of people who usually eat much food either Not offered extra drinks or the dessert menu Did not leave a water jug on the table after we asked for water, and we did not receive water for our child Had to go buy extra food for dinner after.. Won't bother again, would rather drive all the way to Japanese restaurants in Newmarket, Kingsland or Ponsonby instead - were we've been numerous times before and had far better value for money and far...

It was by luck we ended up here. The place we originally wanted to try said they didnt have any available tables. So we searched up restaurants nearby and this one caught our eye the most esp with the yummy menu. We parked up and from outside it looks very quiet and empty. We opened the door and the atmosphere was awesome it was actually pretty full and the waiter was awesome and allowed us to sit at a table even though we had no booking. First glimpse of the place, very warm and the ambience is lovely. We ordered the tasting platter as we wanted to try a bit of everything and my gosh was that one great platter. Everything cooked perfectly. Even the raw items were top notch. My partner went on to order the wagyu and one of the seafood dishes and he absolutely loved it. first time dining at IZU and I was super impressed! .. The food was amazing! Great staff and fast service. For the price it is a bit expensive but it's worth it.

We ordered a pineapple sunset ( very refreshing) and Ramune for our drinks. Grilled tiger prawns (small serving) , teriyaki chicken sushi rolls were delicious and the best one was the eye fillet (it melts in your mouth). We had a single scoop of sesame and matcha ice cream for dessert.
