New Ruby Restaurant — Restaurant in Papakura

Unfortunately, this once beautiful Chinese takeaway's is now garbage. I ordered 4 dishes 1st combination fried rice This was not fried rice It was just steamed rice with big clumps of white rice through it with none of the flavours had been mixed through as it must've only been fried for two seconds. 2nd was satay pork tray was 3/4 fulled with steamed rice and the satay pork it self consisted of 90% of broccoli with a couple of pieces of pork 3rd tray was egg, foo, young and again The tray was over three quarters, full with rice and the egg foo young it self was so watered-down that it did not taste like egg 4th tray was sweet and sour chicken this dish had plenty of chicken but all the coating had fallen off and it just looked disgusting with some sweet and sour sauce at the bottom of the tray, not even coating the chicken. My order was ready really really fast Like 6 minutes obviously it's just chucked together with no care All of the dishes cost $20 or more each so it's not cheap Chinese. I was very excited to finally find a reasonable quality takeaway near my area, my first experience was pretty good, so I’ve decided to go back there a 2nd time and this time I’ve invited my brother to eat with me. Unfortunately the 2nd time wasn’t very good, the Nasi goreng rice was every dry, so was the special fried rice, it felt the two dishes were precooked and just scooped into the containers, which is unacceptable if we ordered from menu not the warmer. It’s either this or the rice wasn’t cooked properly. I’m a chef for over 25 yrs so I know how the food should be.

I was a bit embarrassed as I recommended it to my brother and it had let me down.

I hope the chef will see this and make changes, I may visit again...

Service is really quick, so it is a place to go to when you’re really hungry and can’t wait to feast. They have a takeaway right next to the restaurant, it makes sense. However, they’re more focused on the takeaway, they weren’t able to attend to us. We had to stand by the door just to grab their attention. Maybe have a button at each table so we could ask for things despite being on the other side? They were apologetic about the hassle without us having to complain. Plus points for awareness.

The food is good like any other takeaway. I recommend if you’re a big family or throwing a party to come here for the food. But heads up, the place smells. I don’t know what it is but it’s pungent. I’ll come back here for...
