Tipparost Thai Restaurant — Restaurant in Papakura

We had been to our favourite Thai, Tipparost years ago and loved it. Then it changed owners and downhill it went, as did we! So, not sure how many owners it has had since, but tried it again after my son recommended it. The meal was lovely and entrees great, so we tried a takeaway again!! Slow, slow, and a free rice because we waited!! To have with what I wonder? The mains were great, same as last time, however, we treat ourselves to scallop entree, yuk, not sure if the scallops were meant to be raw, yes RAW! Sure you can eat them raw, let you know tomorrow! Cooked my wife’s scallops, but she would not eat them, sloppy even when cooked, whether ther they are real or constructed, not sure! Other entrees cold, maybe sitting for other meals to cook! On the whole, will not be racing back too soon, they need to know, there are other Thai restaurants around!! Two stars are for the main only. Shock when paying, expected $54 and came in at $71, absolutely not impressed, price was not confirmed on order and girl very hard to understand. Extremely poor service. We were the only diners when we arrived, and even after another table showed up 30 minutes later, the service remained terrible. There were only 2 tables (including ours) to serve the entire time we were there. My husband had to keep getting up to ask for help or basically serve us himself. The food was disappointing—I ordered a curry and mostly got skin and fat with barely any meat. I had to awkwardly wait at the reception just to pay because the owner kept doing other things in the kitchen. You cannot be the cook and the waiter at the same time. I also noticed several Uber Eats drivers waiting excessively long times for their orders; it’s clear the place struggles with basic efficiency. It seems the owners want to run the place alone with no extra staff, and it shows. They clearly can’t manage dine-in service and should consider switching to takeaway only. I was also overcharged and didn’t even bother arguing because I won’t be returning. A truly disappointing visit to a place...

Nice food, BE CAREFUL when ordering through Uber eats. The meals do not come with Rice. You have to order it separately, but they do not note this in their Uber menu. So if you order a Panang curry, or green thai curry, it only comes with the curry, no rice at all. How do I know? Because I ordered rice separately, and that is all I received. I believe they try and save money in every little way possible, but this kind of mentality comes back and bites them in the bum, because you lose a lot of business this way. Honesty and fairness is ALWAYS the best policy. And most Thai people honor this system, sadly not this restaurant. . Also just tried the rice after ordering on uber, they did not use jasmine rice, and the rice tastes almost like rotton milk. The last time I ordered, the rice was perfect, so it's very inconsistant with their meals. The meat in the curry was a bit off, but overall was nice.
