Went here because our first choice was fully booked....I'm so glad it was because we had the most amazing meal here. We were welcomed no problem even though we hadn't booked, the restaurant was busy and the bar was absolutely chocka, having said that there is enough separation between the two spaces for neither to intrude on the other. The front of house staff were lovely, attentive and had a laugh with us throughout dinner service but were also able to keep it 'strictly business' for the diners that obviously preferred it that way. We didn't feel rushed when deciding what to order. The meals came out about 30 minutes after our order was taken, which we think is a fantastic achievement considering how busy they were. The meals were really generous in portion size and of a great quality - everything the four of us ordered we loved. Even though the meals were so generous we can never turn down dessert and these didn't disappoint either. Overall, I think the meal was value for money and we will definitely be back when we are next in Greymouth. Well done to all the staff, you are doing a stellar job! (Dined...
Read moreA few quite bad experiences from a single visit. Usually a great place to eat but this time... (If it wasn't all of these things together, I wouldn't be here writing this review)
Made a booking for 2 for dinner, when we arrived, they had no ideas of the booking and went to turn us away, I showed them the booking confirmation email, and they let us stay.
Ordered garlic bread, salmon and the ribeye steak, asked for medium rare. Our meals come out, before the garlic bread. The ribeye was very well done and also just a very poor piece of meat.
The waiter comes to collect the dishes and I ask about the garlic bread. 15 min goes past and the waiter comes back asking if we want dessert menu. I'd had enough by that point and said nah, we're gonna head off.
We go up to pay and leave, and the waiter asks if we want to pay for the garlic bread?? We didn't get it.
We ended up going to the Australaisan Hotel, and grabbed a garlic bread and dessert! That was very good!
Its a shame the quality of the Rec is going downhill, as previously, it was such a great...
Read moreThe restaurant itself is quite nice aesthetically speaking. The staff was nice enough, but that's about as far as we can go for compliments. The food was pretty shocking considering the cost. We ordered the sweet chilli flatbread as a starter and it was rather disappointing (a wrap with cheese and sweet chilli sauce). My fiance and sister-in-law ordered bubbly which was served at room temperature, and I ordered a smoothie of which I only managed a sip of. Then our mains arrived... The pasta of the day was quite unusual (beef, bacon, mashroom, and Smokey bbq sauce) - ordered it out of curiosity but was disappointed with the outcome. The ladies got Moroccan scallops which were slimy/mushy, and they both agreed that they tasted like they were undercooked.
To the credit of the maitre d, she was awesome when we raised our concerns and gave us a heartfelt apology which...
