This was possibly my worst cafe experience. It was an absolute nightmare. The place was loud and crowded, something that they had little to no control over. When we ordered some food, my mother asked the guy at the counter to check if there was any meat in what she wanted to order. She explained that she could eat the salmon, because she ate fish, but didn't eat other kinds of meat. The man was nice and checked with somebody about this, telling her that there was no meat in the food. It turned out that there was bacon all through the base of it. My mother had eaten half of it before she realized this. They gave my mother a refund on that, though a woman (she was blonde, I believe) did try to blame my mother by essentially saying she was stupid for thinking there was no meat in something that contains salmon. Mum also complained to me later that the base was soggy, and she felt physically sick for a while of course because she hasn't had meat in years.
As for my food, it wasn't quite so bad, but I still didn't enjoy it. I ordered the loaded fries and the flavors really didn't match up well and it was too salty. The smoothie I ordered was $9.50 (seriously?), but ultimately was something I would decide against buying again if it were $4. I received it in a glass jar with a handle (interesting, I'll admit) with a black plastic straw. It was very watery and grainy and overall, very small.
I don't like leaving reviews like this, but after what happened to my mother and how the woman treated her afterwards, I couldn't help but feel like I at least had to have the situation heard by people who might be wondering whether they should come to Cafe on Oxford. You're welcome to make your own decision, but if any friends of mine are considering it, I'll highly recommend that they...
Read moreI'm rather liking this dish (the Oxford); arriving in a healthy portion size.
So, Cafe on Oxford on a late Saturday morning with the teenage kids. First impressions are an even mix of generations amongst the patrons. Nice decor, nothing being stand out weird, looking conservative while being modern and functional. The team seem eager to get on with it so we order after looking over the menu.
So the food, me and the boy get the Oxford (a cooked breakfast mixed plate) with a latte each & the daughter is a bit fussy and opts for a brownie with a juice.
The food and coffee are prepared well and taste great. The brownie looks great and I ask if a dollop of cream can be added. No problem says the staff and it comes back quickly with the cream :)
A really pleasant experience, I'm glad we...
Read moreThe hot cakes were disappointing - a bit stodgy. But OK thatâs what hot cakes are like. My main complaint was that when we had all finished, I checked the menu and realised that there should have been bacon. The chef confirmed he made a mistake. He offered me a serve of bacon but as there were four of us and we had all finished eating, I asked if I could have two clips on a coffee card towards a future coffee (by my reckoning this would be worth a dollar and a generous solution on my part), but this was declined. So I was left with no recompense and a poor opinion of their...
