Oxford Court Motel — Hotel in South Island

This is a disgusting motel. Rooms are nothing like they are shown in the photos. Cutlery mismatched, unwashed. Dirty unclean walls, cupboards, floors mould in the corners under bathroom sink. The decor is so old cold and terrible. Then the owners use excuses they being updated. Also owners dirty, hear her before seeing her, the old man smells like a drunk. The son smokes, spits, and is always woman watching. What i believe are work and income people sit there smoking drinking and lazy. Meant to stay a few nights but had insect guests crawling over us in the morning(cockroaches) Got the run down of an inspection, so they racing around doing a tidy up. This motel is in Richmond which is a suburb of Nelson. About 5km from the airport and on the way to Motueka, Christchurch etc. My wife and I were there for a sports event and this was reasobaly close to the venue. Room was a reasonable size for the two of us and in tidy condition but it was so noisy. We were unlucky enough to get the unit nearest the main road which resulted in traffic noise all day (not so bad) but heavy trucks and boy racers well into the night. Made for broken sleep two nights in a row. We had friends staying at the other end of the complex and they suffered as well. Strangely no movie channels on cable tv. If you can get it cheap and it's only for a night cause you need it, then yes it is suitable for that. The road noise is quiet bad, the walls are also very thin, so if there is a baby crying next door you know about it. There was mould growing on the ranch slider and window frames. The drawer and cupboard handles were noticeably grubby, as were the light switches. The shower was tiny (and I'm a child's size 12, 5ft, very petite chick so I don't need much space), hardly any water pressure. Also there was no fire alarm in the unit, although required by law to have one. When I mentioned this I was told they have had a lot of stuff stolen from rooms. Make of that response...
