Golden Bear Brewing Company — Restaurant in Tasman

This is my first review, that is how bad this place was. We came around 3pm when not many people were eating and ordered lunch. There was a new waitress and her supervisor on staff in the bar area. We ordered a burger without cheese (and double checked she got the no cheese) and corn tortilla tacos and wedges. It took a while for her to put the order in as she was being advised by the supervisor who was on the other side of the bar eating but that was OK. We just got a total, no receipt. Sat outside waiting for the food and when it arrived we got a burger with cheese, flour tacos, and no wedges. Told the kitchen staff who delivered it and he fixed the burger and tacos right away and were told the wedges would come out shortly. My boyfriend waited for about 30 minutes to eat his burger as he was waiting for the wedges to have them together. When the wedges still weren't there I went inside to check. This is the point where things went horribly wrong. The supervisor was really defensive and trying to blame us for not ever ordering wedges. She printed out the receipt to show us the wedges weren't there and I pointed out this is the first time I've seen the receipt but we had definitely ordered them and by this point been waiting 45 minutes for them. She continued to be defensive and argue over this for several minutes before handing over wedges to me with a severe attitude. While the food was good, I'm appalled at how we were treated during what should have been a slow time in the kitchen. Location is great. Staff friendly but food is really sub standard. Corn chips and salsa from the supermarket - hardly a good representation of Mexican food! Asked for cheese quesadilla and got a chicken one and I’m a Vegetarian. I understand mistakes happen but when the quesadilla finally turned up I wished it hadn’t. Half cooked with frozen corn and some boring uncooked peppers as garnish. My husband’s burger was average for $20 plus he had to pay extra for cold spuds. Nothing on the menu for kids which was a wasted opportunity on their part considering the many families with kids in the area. Overall it’s overpriced and the food is bland and we waited for over 45 minutes to get food with the store brought corn chips and salsa arriving last. The beer was absolutely delicious - we had the Hazy IPA which was packed with flavour and very smooth to drink. We ate the carnitas tacos which were mostly tasty although a bit heavy on the black pepper. They should probably be advertised as pulled pork tacos though as that’s what they tasted like. Real carnitas tacos taste very different and are soft sticky pieces of pork. The corn tortillas also needed to be heated with some moisture as they were very chewy. If you wrap them in a damp dish towel and microwave them they would be soft and pliable :) Overall the tacos were tasty but just shouldn’t be called carnitas. Would go back for the beers but maybe try a different meal unless the tacos improved a little.
