Very disappointing experience at the Jellyfish today. As locals who like to support local, we have been here many times before under previous management with no issues. Unfortunately new management has failed to deliver today.

We had booked a table for 12 people for brunch/lunch. Table was booked for 12pm as the breakfast menu is advertised as running until 1pm so the 12pm booking would allow for people to choose between breakfast and lunch options which was important as young kids and family member with special needs wouldn't eat from the lunch menu which is now Asian fusion with lots of complex flavors.

The waitress, who was lovely, said at 12.15pm when taking our order that the breakfast menu had finished at 12pm today yet this wasn't advertised anywhere and we weren't informed until everyone was sitting and drinks had been ordered. When asked to make some special accommodations such as a simple smoothie or basic scrambled eggs on toast (surely there's eggs in the kitchen), none could be made. When asked again about a kids menu or what could be done to accommodate younger children, nothing could be done and a request for a plain bowl of rice was denied.

Overall it was a very disappointing experience from what was previously an accommodating and accepting restaurant for families. Changing menu hours with no warning or advertisement and then being unable or unwilling to make any compromises is unacceptable in my view. Purely management's responsibility here and no blame on the waitress who did her best to talk to the kitchen.

Won't be returning again in a hurry out...

Went out with a booking of 23, we were told they were short staffed so we had to choose from a limited menu and needed to pre order by 2pm for our 6pm booking. So we agreed and sent in our orders ahead of time.

We arrived at 6:00 but our food was served at 7:40pm. More than an hour and a half after we booked. I ordered Confit Duck with celeriac puree, unfortunately all the plates of duck were missing celeriac puree. There were token "spring vegetables" ... One asparagus spear and 2 tiny carrots!

We also noticed the beef fillet was supposed to have cauliflower puree... again absent from the plate, very poor for a $40 main.

Desserts were then slow to arrive.

There were three other small tables so very limited numbers of diners.

Overall very disappointed by the slow service and being short changed by missing items from the plate. This is not a nice feeling especially as we pre ordered 4 hours before we dined!!!

Edit:. As for the owners response, I dispute the timings. And taking on board the facts about you not serving food that was on the menu is great, hopefully next time you will be able to warn diners that some food will be missing.... Presumably you'll need more than 4...

I have never shared a review online but this felt worth it. Quite simply put - would NEVER go back. It was only redeemed by one charming server there. We went as a group of four for breakfast. Was served what can only be described as off milk in the coffee, which was undrinkable salty-dishwasher-liquid tasting. It was replaced with a black coffee by aforementioned server. The food ordered was eggs with a side of avocado and hash which came out as three seperate plates - all with eggs. So 6 eggs for one person. I don’t know if the other wait staff need further training or they just don’t care? When it came time to pay the bill, we were called back inside to pay for a side of bacon - which was ordered but had not shown up on any of the plates. Which I payed just to get away from the place. They also tried to make us pay for the gross coffee. The place directly across looked busy and maybe the locals know where to go better than we did. I hope the server finds employment somewhere better than here - she deserves more. I have never been in a place more in need of help. Bad coffee, bad food, wrong orders, overcharging and clearly bad communication...

Absolutely perfect lunch spot in Mapua We had the most wonderful lunch at Jellyfish, everything from the setting to the service and food was faultless. Sitting by the water with the sun shining and a glass of wine in hand made for such a relaxing afternoon. The fish and chips were some of the best we have had, beautifully crisp batter, fresh fish, and golden fries with a side of tangy tartare. My kokado was light, creamy, and full of flavour, perfectly paired with the crisp kumara chips. We finished with a divine trio of desserts, a perfectly caramelised crÚme brûlée, a soft macaron, and a rich chocolate brownie topped with toasted almonds, all beautifully presented. Service was friendly and unhurried, and we never felt rushed even though it was a busy day. It is such a lovely spot to unwind, enjoy great food, and take in the view of the boats on the water. Highly recommend Jellyfish to anyone visiting Mapua. It is easily one of the best places to eat in the area. We cannot wait to come back.

My wife & I dined here the second night of our New Zealand honeymoon/vacation (mid-March 2025). Located in Mapua Wharf, which is a cluster of shops & restaurants overlooking the water (absolutely beautiful btw). The Jellyfish offers outdoor seating, but it was unfortunately too cold/windy that evening. A large, ambient indoor setting with a fireplace. Very friendly, accommodating staff, in which all the delicious courses were brought out in a reasonable amount of time. All the seafood choices on the menu looked incredible. Great drink selection too! Highly recommend for a nice seafood dinner night out (and outdoors if the weather is applicable)

We went there for dessert and were pleasantly surprised with what we found. The creme Brule was served in a flatter plate resulting in more of that delicious Crack on top. The banana split looked Devine. The rhubarb was surprisingly tough, sadly, as if it had been cooked a little more it would have been a wonderful balance for the rich chocolate molten lava cake dessert. The waitress was very accommodating with this error. The log fire was a very pleasant addition on our cold winter night. Not too noisy too, which was nice. Great spot on the Mapua Wharf.
