Sprig + Fern Motueka — Restaurant in Tasman

Sprig and fern has lower alcohol beers ranging from 3.2% to 6.5% from Lagers to pilsners, scotch ales and stouts. The beer is old-world style. This is NOT the brewery for new age craft beer fanatic millennials who appeal to New England Style hazies and West Coast IPAs (more below). But let’s talk the setting:

YES this place has a food menu YES there is wine, cider, beer and non-alch drinks. YES there is upstairs seating with lounge couches. YES there is outdoor seating (including a smoking section) YES you can reserve a seat NO there is not seating at a “bar”.

We walked in at 6;00-6:15 and the place was half empty but busy. However all the empty tables were reserved for 6:45 and 7:00. So we basically had no where to sit in a half empty pub otherwise we probably would have got some food and reviewed that too. Upstairs the couches should be eliminated and turned into high tops or dining four-tops for more seating. I said earlier this is not the place for a craft beer millennial but it is the place for a craft beer boomer. That’s simply because of the stylization of beer the brewery caters to. There’s more maltiness to the IPA and pale ale that was prevalent nearly two decades ago compared to the fresh hopiness experimented with in the last five years. The motel staff recommended The Sprig and Fern. They were not wrong, oh my goodness - absolutely scrumptious!!! My husband had the Ribeye, salad, mushrooms and roasted potatoes. The steak was cooked perfectly, my husband devoured the salad ( he is not the best with salads) really enjoying his meal here. $35.00 I had the Tandoori organic chicken salad with crispy noodles. Absolutely scrumptious!! The best salad I have had for a very long time! Packed with flavour, texture and complimented the tandoori chicken. At $22.00 it was definitely value for money. We spoke to the young lady chef who made the salad.💖 (Spinach, sprouts, avocado, cherry tomatoes, finely sliced red onion/carrot/broccoli/red cabbage/mesclun salad/almonds/sunflower seeds) I’m sure I have left something out - totally the best salad!!!! Your invited to stay with us if you make the salad. ✅❤️ The restaurant was packed, understandably the locals know it’s one of the best Motueka has to offer.

Respectfully I hope the owners know what fabulous chefs they have working there. AAA+++...

I ordered fish burger and friends order pizza. My fish burger was disgusting. Had two bites of it Didn’t eat it at all. When told that to the lady at bar while paying , she said its alright. I told her i didn’t eat the burger. She said its alright. Had to pay for the burger which i could not eat. The lady was so rude, she didnt bother to apologise. Very bad experience i had today. I was so disappointed because the way she handled it was not appropriate and i could not stop myself to review here. Probably her name was claire.
