I'm not one to leave bad reviews. I usually think I caught a place on a bad day, but this was another level of poor service. We ordered two kids burgers and a house burger and while I understand quality takes time. We ordered after 2pm, the cafe was half empty and it took 50 min for our food to arrive (this after querying our order after 35 min) and the quality wasn't 50 minutes worth of wait to be honest. It was an average burger at best. Our order arrived wrong. I asked for chips with the house burger, to which the person taking my order asked if I'd like aoili with the chips and I said yes. When it arrived wrong, the person bringing the meal asked me if I'd changed the order as their records showed salad but that they would put in an order for chips for us. We finished our meal and the chips hadn't yet arrived. When my husband went to query it, we were told what did we expect if we only ordered the chips now. We asked to speak to a manager to which the person who took our order made it a huge joke and began yodelling the managers name. She then asked us to write a note. We asked for tomato sauce as none of the tomato sauce canisters had any in. The person who took our order made a big song and dance, causing the other staff to laugh by walking around with a huge container of the tomato sauce and pouring huge amounts on everyone's plates, other tables as well as our own. When we finally got our chips and asked her to please bring the huge container so we may also have tomato sauce. She finally filled a cannister for us. The same server who took our order kept canoodling with her boyfriend in the entry to the kitchen in clear view of the patrons. I saw her do this over and over as I kept staring into the kitchen hoping the next order out would be ours.

Very disappointed. Believed all the high reviews and that was not my experience at all. Wish I'd...

Used to frequent this place a lot on my travels, back then I would of rated this place 5 stars, last 3 visits I have definitely noticed the quality and quantity of the meals ordered seriously going down hill but the prices going up to the point I don't think il bother coming back unless some changes are made. 12 bucks for 2 tiny eggs on 2 stingy little pieces of dry bare toast smaller than the palm of your hand and couldn't even butter them! The large size hot drinks are actually just a regular size anywhere else you'd go, only thing large about them is the price you pay!

Reply to owner 20/12/21 couple of corrections please in regards to your reply, what I'm saying is the size classed as "large" is actually only a regular size elsewhere. Next point is that no other type of milk was ordered or specified so what ever milk was in the drinks were what the person making the drinks used and tasted like cow milk to us, nothing else. The bread was not said to be stringy, it was a mis spell on our part, we were referring to the small portion size of the bread used which once again it was the ciabatta bread not gluten free as you seem to have put in your reply, and it was bare and dry meaning butter would not go a miss. We are not trying to personally pick on you but fairs fair, you want people to support your business on one hand but don't wish to deliver fair size portions on the other hand, if we go somewhere and the price is up a little but you get a fair portion for it then that balances out, this is not feedback from a one off customer this is feedback from people who have supported you for quite some time now. It has been very noticeable, we would love to keep supporting you but we don't see that paying more and more for less and less is fair that's all, there's gotta be a line in the...

Ordered some food from the breakfast menu and a simple cup of tea with milk. The breakfast came in at a decent time but came with the wrong toppings as I'd asked for at the counter, I'm deeply allergic to the said topping that was given to me and I asked If I could have my original order. The plate was not taken from me or did the staff have any manners after my request for what I originally ordered. I was then met with a comment from another staff member with a condescending tone that what I'd asked for was coming, I never received what I asked for. In this time it has been 40 minutes since I had received my simple tea and milk, I asked a staff member who was serving another table if I could get my tea. I politely asked about my querie and was met with a stale response and no sort of apology or niceties came from her mouth. 2 minutes later she came back to ask what I'd ordered, I then stated again I was waiting for my tea, she left without any positive behavior only a cold shoulder and returned with my tea shortly after.

In conclusion The whole meal establishment that I loved 3 years ago had dissappeared and turned into unsavory staff, horrible portions and incorrect meals. Hopefully this once wonderful cafe will be back to it's original state...

We headed over to Takaka after some recent heavy rain, very wary that the road had been closed the day before. The local cleanup services had done an amazing job, so we were able to traverse the hill safely to visit my neice and take her out for lunch! What better place to go! Such a wide range of food, prepared and cooked with love and care. There were four of us dining, and we were served quickly, and with gusto! There is plenty of outdoor seating, and if the weather is a little rough, lots of inside seating also. We chose a table upstairs, under the watchful eyes of Norma Jean, Bob Dylan and James Dean. I had a bit of a sweet tooth, so ordered the waffles with bacon and bananas. The waffles were light and fluffy, fresh and crispy on the outside while nice and cakey inside. The bacon was crisp and complimented the sliced bananas perfectly. My neice had the eggs bene, and this was nice, although I think the eggs were very slightly overdone, but then again, I like my eggs very runny and this is a personal preference. Another diner with us had the grilled fish, this was very good, and was cooked well. The venue is rustic but very clean and comfortable. They even had a special exit for this old hippy! Get out of the rat race and give this place a go!

This place was recommended to us by some locals so we headed over there on a Friday for a late breakfast. I ordered the wholemeal mash with bacon and it was just OK. The poached eggs were overdone and it came with big half potato size chunks of fried potato And the entire meal was a bit dry and overcooked. Definitely not what I would think of as hash. But it was made with quality ingredients from what I could tell and the service was average but the atmosphere definitely is very cool and a nice place to enjoy a meal with friends. The prices are on the high side for the quality of the preparation but overall it was not a bad experience. I honestly don’t think I would go back there again if I was a local but maybe they were just exceptionally busy that day or maybe something else on the menu would have been better.

Lovely cafe, great vibe and food was amazing. The fish was fresh and crunchy, just like the chips as well. Exactly how i like my fish n chips. Just a couple disappointments the salad was a little over dressed for my liking but did go well with the rest of the meal. Iced coffee 😥😢.....I paid $9 for an iced coffee and im sorry but that was a total disappointment. No wow factor like i was expecting, no cream on top or ice cream blended in. Pretty sure it was made with UHT milk as it just had that particular taste. I should have just bought 2 normal coffees and drank them cold.
