Went for breakfast but felt like fish n chips with two poached eggs and my wife ordered scrambled eggs with sausage bacon mushrooms. Food arrived, very very disappointing my fish was way overcooked, burnt almost, my poached eggs came out on a separate plate, the little basket the chips came, in totally unnecessary, was served mayo instead of tartare sauce, my wifes scrambled eggs overcooked to the point that they were dry, the 1 rasher of bacon looked like it was dropped in the deep fryer with my overcooked fish. Will not be going back there. I didn't get an apology or any acknowledgement of my complaint, I said if you want to see how it should be done come to Tokoroa to "Rumbly Tums" they will show. There was another elderly couple there too and they were waiting far too long for their coffees, which he duely made a complaint too, as the wait was far too long. You need a new cook because the one you have doesn't care about the quality of food going out to customers, it's embarrassing for your business and your margins ultimately. Absolute rubbish! I gave 1 star as cannot be posted without a star otherwise I wouldn't of...

Stopped here for breakfast on the way home from Hamilton. Lovely premesis but sadly the food was disappointing. Herbed scrambled eggs were completely unseasoned and overcooked. Served on reheated unbuttered bread that tasted a day past its best. The side of spinach was served without so much as a drizzle of oil. I'm not one to add salt and pepper to a meal but definitely needed to today. My partner had the big breakfast which also came with slightly stale unbuttered bread, very cold mushrooms and a hashbrown which tasted of old, used cooking oil. It's essential in the hospitality industry for staff to come out and check that the clients are satisfied with their meals and this didn't happen today. I'm not normally a complainer and didn't want to embarrass the staff by going up to the counter where other diners would overhear the criticism so said nothing but we definitely won't return again. Pick up your game...

Convenient location on state highway 1 next to the BP with lots of parking near by. Lots of traveler’s and locals stopping by. I’ve only ever stopped by for a take away coffee so can’t comment on the food

I found the wait time excessive for a takeaway coffee on my last visit- over 20 minutes. In that time only 8 coffees were made before me. Two girls on the coffee machine seem inexperienced and under trained and lacked the urgency and passion of other great cafes nearby. Great coffee and prompt service should be a given in NZ cafes but I found neither to be true on my recent visits.

The coffee was nice, nothing special and not worth the wait. There are other places to try in Tīrau. If you don’t mind the wait the gift shop may keep you entertained for a few minutes. I mentioned to the owner about the wait time and lack of punctuality. Hopefully they can...

Lovely, quirky little cafe. The food was great and came out quite fast. Prices are pretty standard and the serving sizes were good. The only not so good things were that the entry into the cafe is quite awkward as the serving area, the barista area and access to the toilets are all at an intersection with the entrance and everyone was tripping over each other trying to get through and there isn’t much room for people trying to look at the menu and order. Also, the girl serving was a bit snarky - everyone else was lovely though.

Coffee was nice, best ham and cheese toasties in a while, liked getting to choose bread type and fillings. Toasties were crispy on the outside and had plenty of cheese. Fries were rustic and crispy. Good portions. Friendly service. Nice outdoor area. Would recommend as a rest stop on a drive. Clean bathroom.

Great food and coffee, we always stop off here in our way through Tirau, and live the quaint feel, and also the dissent sculptures and artistic pieces scattered everywhere! Normally would be 5 stars but clearly a novice on the till that took a long time, but everyone has to start somewhere!
