Six of us had a coffee or cup of tea here recently. All coffees although freshly made were cold and we had to ask for hot water. The person who had tea had her cup and saucer carried to the table with the servers thumb right inside the cup. The toilets were filthy. Floor looked like it hadn’t been swept for weeks and littered with empty toilet rolls. No paper towels when I went to dry my hands. When I told the café staff one of the ladies grabbed a tea towel she had been using and went into the toilets. One of our group was washing her hands and the staff person handed her the tea towel to dry her hands on. She was looking for paper towels to restock them. We had steak pies, large and very filling, huge chunks of melt in the mouth steak with a nice gravy. Coffee was also good. Wished we'd had room to try the giant savoury scones, or one of the many varieties of sandwiches or toasties. Well worth a stop before or after Rotorua. I also went to the SPCA op shop (the cafe is off the main road just behind the big sheep where U can park), the souvenir shop, the isite info centre and the public loos, all right next door.
