We were 5 adults and had a table booked for 7.15 p.m. over the Queen's mourning, long weekend. We were told that that the restaurant was unexpectedly busy and they had a 40 minute wait for food. Restaurant was 1/3rd empty and we had booked the table earlier in the day. The waitress took our drinks order and said she would come back to let us know whether they could do some quick appetisers for us. We told her that it would be great as our youngest needs to eat at a certain time. 25 minutes later there was no sign of her. I got up to go ask for some feedback - would have been nice to know what the story was - and I saw her, finally, serving up our drinks. She then says that she cannot even place our order in the kitchen, but would try and push my daughters' food through since she had a problem. It was too late. It had been 24 hours since my daughter had eaten. She can only eat 1 meal a day and that too at a certain time. It took the waitress 25 minutes, after we mentioned that she had a problem, to try and do something about it. Anyway, appetisers came quickly, after that. We had placed our food order, at the same time and that came out soon after...but this was after the restaurant had emptied out. The fish of the day was over( told to us at the last.minute . I couldn't be bothered looking through the menu again and took whatever else was available ). Food was extremely average...if not below average. Good spot but not worth it. Too many other options available, guys. Some locals told us the same thing. AVOID! YOU will never...
Read moreBooked for a nice birthday dinner on recommendation of AirBnB host. What a disappointment. Staff were fine but no ambience at all - zilch. By 8pm we were only table left and it was evident they were just waiting for us to leave. Partners ostrich was yum, but my duck was so tough it required me asking for a steak knife so I could cut it. This place is expensive so expected more. They were so keen to get us out that we were asked about dessert when main plates collected - we asked for a period of time before deciding - waitress never came back. No further offer of dessert, coffee, or drinks was forthcoming. At one stage while we were eating the front door was fully propped open - I assume to help floor dry they were mopping - different area from where we were sitting but the place became freezing (it was cold outside). When we got up to pay they couldn't get rid of us fast enough - no pleasantries, no 'would you like to check bill' etc etc. Drove past the other recommended restaurant on our way home - subdued lighting, people still sitting eating/drinking. We visited many delightful restaurants/cafes in Raglan over four days but would def not spend my...
Read moreHaving just returned from travel across the southern states where the prawns were always the highlight, we ordered the seafood platter and were delighted to experience prawns as gorgeous as any we had eaten, the platter included a large slice of salmon, calamari, scallops, fish and garlic bread, there were only the two of us but the price was so reasonable we went for it and it was well worth doing so. I'm a cocktail lover so I had my meal with an old fashioned with chocolate bitters which was delightful. We had to have dessert because we each found a favourite on the menu, hubby an apple and rhubarb tart and for me the generous profiterole covered in warm chocolate sauce. I like a coffee with dessert so ordered the espresso martini with salted caramel,an excellent finish to our evening. All said it's worth the drive to Raglan to dine here,we will have to do it again. Sign at the door saying they were short staffed, which is the norm everywhere now but we weren't there for fast food and the staff...
