Wholly Bagels & Pizza Thorndon — Restaurant in Wellington

The food is great, the pizza here is better than other outlets. Staff are friendly and the service is good, it could be better though, cutlery is often not delivered with hot food, how do you eat pumpkin soup without a spoon? The location and atmosphere is pleasent but it is not clean by any standards. Often the tables are greasey with food remains, the furniture is tired, worn and broken, the walls have seen better days too as these have a thick layer of patina. Clean plates, glasses and cutlery look dirty by default which is due to wear and tear. I have returned some on occasions because it was unacceptable. Sunday brunch …decided to change from my usual (vegetarian with sun dried tomato ) to having the Woodstock option ….Defo not for me ..couldn’t eat it ..had a couple of bites and I found the whole thing just didn’t work…actually had to conceal what I had tried to eat into my serviette ….not good …the mushrooms were too salty and cold? The cheese would have been better melted …overall it was a funky tasting fail … hubby had our usual vegetarian bagel which was fresh and tasty …the coffee sadly was not good …tasted bitter and burnt …the interior of the premises needs a thorough make over ..it’s extremely tired …the torn seating …paint chipped kids play area ..just feels grimy and has looked this way for...

This Wholly Bagel must have been here for 30 years or almost. I used to live nearby but now live in a different city, so Im not a regular customer. The furniture is original, although the menu has changed. The bagels are still pretty good. There's a wide range of flavours and a good range of cream cheeses to match. The coffee is OK but mild. The place was half full of girls from the school across the road. I think they are the target market for the coffee. The girls shouted to each other across the room with no consideration for other customers and the staff said nothing. Maybe next time if there is one I'll get the...
