"As a student at Te Kura, I have faced significant challenges that have impacted my academic progress. Despite my initial enthusiasm for studying Maths and Maori as part of my NCEA program, I was inadvertently enrolled in ordinary level courses for these subjects, not just in Term 2, but it appears this was the case since Term 1. This error has left me with insufficient credits to meet the NCEA requirements, and I am now facing an uphill battle to catch up on missed assignments and standards.
I initially reached out to my teachers for assistance, but unfortunately, the response was delayed and ultimately unhelpful. It wasn't until I escalated the matter and contacted a senior staff member that I was able to get guidance on how to potentially rectify the situation. Specifically, I was advised to contact a specific department to explore options for subject changes. While I appreciate the eventual resolution, I am concerned that it required my persistence and escalation to a senior staff member to get the issue addressed.
Given my experience, I would caution parents to carefully consider whether Te Kura is the best fit for their children. While I have found solace in extracurricular activities like cadets and boxing, which have provided a sense of community and purpose, the academic support system at the school requires significant improvement. Students should not have to advocate for themselves to the extent that I did to resolve a critical issue like this. I hope that my experience can serve as a catalyst for change and encourage the school to review its administrative processes and support structures...
Read moreDon’t expect an email back from teachers, I had to phone multiple times and spent hours on hold to try talk to somebody so I could finish within a due date they set. The website is highly outdated and the modules/ lessons are poorly planned. I’d have looked past this if teachers (if you can even call them that) would respond to my questions which mostly were related to the poorly organised lessons and assessments. In the end I did not need The Kura for university so I stopped as it was more difficult than it was worth. After this I never received an email or any form of communication regarding assignments after this, it is clear the “teachers” do not care. I have read many reviews and spoken to others and many of us have very similar experiences. There is quite clearly an issue with whatever excuse of a...
