Deserves more than 4,5 stars in rating. Read all the complaints. It’s just idiots not getting to eat there. This is a packed restaurant, so you need to book. Do you book tables at fancy and busy restaurant? Well, Szechuan Chengdu is. After getting hyped deservedly in the biggest norwegian papers, you bet this is going to be packed the next 36 months at minimum. Everyone is eating here now. The regulars, the hipsters, the rich.. 1 star «No time» review. Dude, how dumb are you? You think they will run out of business? Hilarious. I was here with a group of friends. Food is amazing and the service is heart-warming. We were laughing the whole meal. Very enjoyable and very cheap. Remember to order from the red menu. I guess you don’t have to, because I guess we all are here for the red menu. The fish MELTED in the mouth. Smooth like butter, like wagyu undercover. Beef in chili oil was lit. 3 portions of sweet & sour pork was from the “normal” menu, but like.. that’s a stable authentic Hong Kong dish. Fried fatty pork was like bacon on SPEED. Like what?! Beef and beef stomach is a cold dish I’ve never had and holy moly that was nice. Mapo tofu was good, but not amazing. The vegetable dish got some mixed reviews ranging from good to “best vegetarian dish ever”. I felt the chicken dish was ok, but the other guys loved it and this is the beauty: don’t like it? Don’t eat it. There’s like 20 other amazing choices. Last tip: if by some miracle you’ve never had chinese food in your life then this shouldn’t be your first. You’ll eat, but you won’t know how amazing it is.

This restaurant offers a delicious and an authentic experience for Chinese food outside China. As the daughter of a Chinese mom, I can tell you this is not just localised Chinese food. Well I cannot compare it to Szechuan since I've only been to mom's hometown, cities close by & Beijing. But still, can tell you this is better than what you consider Chinese food abroad. They have 2 menus; regular one and the Szechuan food menu. We tried chilli pepper chicken, chilli frog (much like chicken), tofu with Szechuan pepper, homemade dumplings filled with pork, garlic aubergine, stir-fried potatoes and lotus sprout with fried tofu. The only thing which was from the regular menu was the dumplings & loved them too. They have lots of options for vegetarians as well. Steamed rice is included. My fav dishes were the veggy ones and the dumplings. Tofu with Szechuan pepper had a refreshing & burning inside feeling; like you eat chilli, black pepper and mint at the same time. So we didn't like it much. My mouth was numbed. But the ones I loved were absolutely delicious. The portions are good for sharing. 3 courses are enough for 2 people. The staff were also so nice and they even made small changes for us to try more in one dish. And if you cannot finish them just ask them to wrap it up for you. This is Chinese culture & they'll do it happily. We went there two times & there will be more! Don't forget to make a reservation before you go cause they're quite busy:)

Went during Covid, so it had to be takeaway only. They have two menus: the Western one and the one with real Szechuan food :) The two vegetarian items we had would normally be served with a little ground pork for textural contrast, but when I asked, they were happy to make us the dishes without meat. We had what they called braised eggplant: it's actually the classic Szechuan dish, fish fragrant aubergine. (It doesn't taste of fish: the sauce was originally made to go with fish.) Lusciously tender, with a perfect balance of spice and freshness, rounded off with a gentle sweetness. The second dish we had was ma po tofu: the creamy pieces of tofu acted as a beautiful foil for the hot chilli sauce. The Szechuan pepper that topped it just took it to the next level! Mouth numbing, zesty, spicy hot! The final item we had was chilli chicken. The woman taking our order was very insistent that it's got bones in it. It's certainly true: every mouthful had a bone running through it, but that just made the flavour so much more rich and full. I will admit, we got three dishes because I didn't want to pass any of them up, but they were all of very generous portions that it'll probably serve us tomorrow as well! In summary: excellent, genuine Szechuan food: well worth a visit.

Great dining experience. We ordered five courses in total: the crispy duck, mapo tofu, popcorn chicken, green beans and a dish with prawn. Nothing particularly diminishing to say about any of the dishes as you, for the most part, get what you expect from reading the restaurant monicker (which is a good thing). My personal favorites were the popcorn chicken, mapo tofu, and the duck. The beans were, well, beans. The combinatory nature of serving Chinese food in what appears to resemble an architectural bar makes for an unusual atmosphere, almost touching upon the lively, casual nature of rural Chinese dining. All in all a satisfying experience and would certainly consider visiting again. Price-wise it's right in the middle of what you would expect to pay when dining out in Oslo.

Struggling for a couple of years to find a real Chinese place in Oslo. Upon recommendation from a Chinese connection was told to go here. Frankly was keeping expectations low due to repeated disappointments but am so HAPPY to state that it was great! Fairly authentic Szechuan food. We had the long beans, chicken cashew and a shrimp dish. Bottomless rice was nice as well. The owner was pleasant and seated us despite arriving very early. Whilst I will overlook ambiance over food quality, the place was rather cold and they could improve on that. But a small issue in the grand scheme of things. Will definitely be back!
