This place is so good that it almost feels like a shame to not rate it 5 stars. Unfortunately, there were just a few shortcomings that keep it from getting my unconditional endorsement.
We waited an hour and a half to get a table. 4 stars is my rating in spite of, and not because of this, which should say something about how excellent the experience was once we actually got inside. There really is no reason for this to happen at all. This is tourism season. If you don't have capacity to seat everyone who wants to come in, and you know without a doubt that you will have this kind of volume, then why in god's name would you not allow for reservations? Worse yet: they make you stand outside the door in the freezing rain for them to shout your name. If you insist on not allowing for reservations, then a simple solution would be to allow people to leave their number with you. Like where are they gonna go? The whole island is barely a kilometer long!
While not ideal, we ended up just ordering some appetizers at the tables outside while we waited. This prompted a horde of seagulls to aggressively screech, swoop, and even stand on our table. Like how hard would it be to just put a freaking umbrella outside? This honestly just felt blatantly disrespectful.
During this time, we watched as the last burger was sold to a woman sitting outside, and eaten by a seagull. Why was there a "last burger"? Did they not account for the typical tourism volume? That also goes for the chili. What I ordered was literally not even determined by what I was hungry for, but out of fear that they would run out of everything on the menu before I even got seated! That should come as an embarrassment!
Still, this is a really nice place, and the food was pretty great nonetheless. The fries in particular were delicious! And the drinks were amazing--and they don't try to rob you like their competition down the street does.
Add in the FREE live music by the most talented (and more or less unknown) guitarist/singer I've seen in Norway and I am without a doubt sold. Even the playlist before the talent arrived was just spot on. I'd definitely visit again if I ever found myself in Henningsvær, and if they've done something about the issues I mentioned, I'd give them that last star...
Read moreThe waitress, Lisa, was incredibly rude. It took a while for her to notice us standing at the counter because she was sitting with her friends at a table, on her phone. When she realised there were people and she came to take our order she was annoyed when I asked about wines by the glass, which it said on the menu ‘please ask the staff’. My partner initially tried to tip her 20% and when he asked about how he could, she snapped at him to read the screen. Later on as we were eating we saw her wave a bra around in front of her friends while there were about 4 tables eating in the restaurant. It cost €90 for 2 burgers and 1 beer, 1 wine, excluding tip. That being said the food was good but not €30 for a...
Read moreCosy little cafe that does some local fish based dishes like fish soup, bacalao and rekesmørbrød. They do burgers as well and make a vegetarian burger that you can turn into a vegan burger by replacing the milk based bun into a gluten free vegan bun. The patty itself is vegan.
The place is nicely decorated and is overlooking the pretty waterside of the village. Nice vibe with frequent visitors from the next door outdoor adventure shop. Warm fireplace in the middle of the room.
Their muffins were huge and very good as well. We had the chocolate one and a carrot cake cheese cake...
