I'm sorry to convey about my disappointing experience at Udupi on 11-04-2024. It sounds incredibly frustrating to wait for so long and then receive subpar service and food quality. We ordered all the below mentioned items when we entered the hotel. On the 11th of April 2024, my family and I, along with three other families, decided to dine at Udupi. Sadly, our experience there was nothing short of a disaster. We endured over an hour of waiting, only to be served an overcooked roast that was charred black. After voicing our dissatisfaction, they took it back, but even after a 20-minute wait, the replacement was just as poorly prepared. Unfortunately, for my friend sitting near to my table also same thing happened. To make matters worse, the servers seemed indifferent to our plight, except for the supervisor who showed kindness but had limited authority. We had ordered two servings of ghee roast for our children, but they were brought out one at a time with lengthy intervals between them. This left us wondering why they couldn't have prepared both simultaneously. Our order also included veg biriyani, which was accompanied by curd raita that tasted sour, indicating it might have been kept for too long. Despite bringing this to the attention of the supervisor, the replacement dish was even more sour than the first. Our disappointment peaked. We left Udupi with half-empty stomachs and a deep sense of frustration. I expressed my dissatisfaction to the cashier, stating that as long as I remain in Oman, neither I nor my family and friends will return to Udupi. All my friends and their families whom I brough to Udupi start to share their disappointments on my choice. On the other hand, our other friends and families (as we splitted in to 4+4+4 families) went to near by hotel at the same time and they were waiting for us more than one hour to come out of hotel after their dinner. It's disheartening because I had recommended Udupi to my friends, and this visit marked my first experience with the restaurant. Despite ordering only a modest selection of dishes—two tomato soups, two ghee roasts, and a biriyani with paneer gravy—the overall experience left us utterly...
Read moreA satisfying vegetarian experience.
I visited this vegetarian restaurant after hearing about its Udupi offerings. I asked the staff for their speciality Udupi dish, and they recommended the buns with vegetable kuruma. It turned out to be a great choice! The buns were fresh, soft, warm, and slightly sweet, perfectly paired with a small portion of vegetable kuruma, chutney, and sambar. A comforting combination that stood out for its simplicity and taste.
The menu listed the price as 400 baisa for "Buns Kuruma", but the bill mentioned 800 baisa. While it's possible this was the charge for a double portion (for two buns, maybe), the menu didn’t make that clear and it caused confusion.
I also tried their hot badam milk, which was served at just the right temperature.
The staff were polite. When I inquired about traditional Udupi dishes beyond the Thali, the staff could have elaborated more, but eventually recommended the buns, which I appreciated.
However, a couple of drawbacks affected the overall experience:
The wash area is quite small, and during peak hours, it can get a bit congested. Only one person can enter to the area at a time. The toilet...
