Detailed Review for Keol Cafe Karachi

I recently dined in at Keol Cafe Karachi, and while my overall experience had some positives, the quality of the pizza left me quite disappointed. First, I have to mention that the atmosphere was excellent—the ambiance was cozy, the lighting was well-balanced, and the seating was comfortable. It’s a great spot to sit and enjoy a meal with friends or family. The staff was polite, and the service was fairly quick, which added to the positive impression at the beginning.

However, when it came to the food, particularly the pizza, things took a turn for the worse. From the top, the pizza looked great—fresh toppings, well-melted cheese, and an inviting presentation. The taste itself was decent, with a good balance of flavors. But the biggest issue was the crust. The bottom of the pizza was completely burned, covered in black patches, which made it almost impossible to enjoy. Instead of a crispy, well-cooked base, it was overdone to the point that it had a bitter, burnt taste that overpowered everything else.

This was extremely disappointing because the restaurant clearly has potential, but such a fundamental mistake in food preparation shouldn’t be happening. A great pizza isn’t just about toppings—it needs a properly baked crust as well. If the kitchen had been a little more careful, this could have been an excellent meal.

I genuinely hope the management pays attention to this issue and improves their cooking process. With such a great ambiance and good service, they have the potential to be an amazing spot if they work on their food quality. For now, I can’t say I’d return for the pizza unless I hear that they’ve fixed the issue.

This is the restaurant & Art Gallery of Noor Jehan Bilgrami - the famous & fine artist/painter/dress designer ( once designed the uniform of Air-Hostesses of PIA thru competition ) & wife of Architect Akeel Bilgrami who has designed this fine Art GalleryCum Restaurant with beautiful interior & landscaping by both husband & wife duo & whose Wedding I had attended at Hotel Beach Luxury in the late 60s . In the past when we were going to attend the book reading Sessions of the Readers Club in the Coaching Centre building of Afzaal MuniffSb on 26th Street of KDA Scheme-5, Clifton then we used to frequent on Fridays the nearby KoelRestaurant who was then serving the Hyderabadi & the Madrassi wholesome dishes. Now , on the recen past Thursday , I had gone to this Art Gallery/ Restaurant to pay homage to the late Artist Nargis Khalid sister of my friend & colleague Architect Afzal Ebrahim of Arizona ( USA). There were 5 or 6 gentlemen & 14 or 16 ladies ( mostly artists / painters ) sitting in a circle in the Hall & after the fatehaKhawani green tea was offered which I declined as I had to rush to the PIM Office at Clifton to attend the book reading Session of Readers Club so I left this place at 6:45 pm & after bidding farewell to NoorJehansba though she had offered to prepare something for me to eat & after meeting Afzal Ebrahim who came quite late to his sister's Condolence Referance I rushed to the...

A Mixed Experience at Koel

During my visit to Pakistan, I visited Koel with my friend and chose to sit outside, enjoying the natural ambiance and homely setup with beautiful trees. The setting was peaceful, making for a pleasant dining experience.

We ordered Dahi Baray, Prawns, and Moroccan Chicken. While the presentation was fine, the food itself was average. In particular, the Dahi Baray were a bit too hard, which I mentioned to the waiter for feedback to the chef.

One unexpected situation involved a cat roaming around our table. While some diners (including myself) appreciated the presence of the cat, another customer asked for it to be removed. The waiter immediately shooed the cat away, without considering that some guests actually enjoy having pets around, especially in an outdoor setting.

Overall, the experience was average. It didn’t quite feel like the Koel I remember from previous visits. I hope this feedback is taken constructively to help improve both the food quality and the overall customer experience.

Would I visit again? Possibly—but I’d hope for some...

Paid a visit to Koel today on August 14th. Parmesan-crusted chicken turned out to be a great choice. The chicken was crispy, fresh, and topped with authentic Parmesan, served alongside a delightful cheesy sauce, vegetables, and mashed potatoes. You can also add an extra chicken fillet for an additional 450rs. The Koel special club sandwich, served with french fries, was very tasty. However, the Margherita Pizza fell short of expectations and could use some improvement. For drinks, we tried the cold cappuccino, which is perfect if you enjoy the bitterness of coffee (9/10), the Hazelnut Frappe, which had a slight vanilla-like taste and was pleasantly sweet (9/10), and the peach iced tea (7.5/10). As for the ambiance, it was a truly enjoyable experience, thanks to the lush greenery and the calm atmosphere, complemented by the soothing sounds of birds chirping. Prices are reasonable compared to other cafes in Karachi, making this spot even more appealing. Must visit at least once.

Pathetic service. Went there for afternoon meal. There was no staff around and only one table which was already having their food. Walked to their kitchen and picked up a menu as no staff was in sight. Selected the order but no one to take the order so again walked to kitchen, knocked and asked a server to take the order. Ordered grilled chicken (which doesn’t take a lot of time to cook). There were no other customers in the restaurant apart from one table who had already competed their meal. After 20 mins inquired from a server about the meal and he said 5 mins, after 30 mins asked again and didn’t get any answer. After 40 mins of waiting went to kitchen and asked them to cancel and walked out. Have visited koel several times in past but have never experienced such slow and bad service. Really disappointed. I do love their food but keeping customers waiting for more than 40 mins in an empty cafe is just not right
